Has anyone ever had a weave for 4 months and DIDN'T experience breakage?

I know keeping a weave for more than 3 months is a Big No No.

But, I recently had sengelase twist/braids for 4 months. I got great growth. :yep:

I wanted to do the same thing with my install.

What do you think? :look:

I had a latch-hook for 3 and 1/2 months. No problems and a lot of growth. I made sure to wash, condition and oil my hair and scalp weekly. :spinning:

I will be gettin it latched again Monday, 12/28, get protective style.

I wouldn't do it. For me and my natural hair - I think 4 months would be too long. My last weave lasted 3 months which was a stretch for me. I usually don't go beyond the 6 to 8 week mark because I'm afraid my natural hair may tangle and matt. Given the condition of the weave at take down after I had cowashed, straightened, been swimming - all kinds of things in that 3 months it still looked good and my braids were still intact. I probably could have gotten another month out of it. It was definitely a good install and she didn't even add synthetic braiding hair. It was just my own hair braided and then the weave was sewn on. In the past when they didn't use the hair my cornrowed base didn't hold up as long which shortened the life span of my weave.

But I will say this - wearing braids for 3 months and wearing a weave for 3 months are two different things. With the braids by them being individually braided you run less risk of your hair tangling and matting on itself.

That may not be true for the weave. I've had my new growth start to curl around my cornrows before from me constantly cowashing the weave. Once I saw that tangling going on I knew it was time to take it down. I had a few spots that felt like they may matt but it turned out alright. I've also had cornrows start to unravel from washing before which meant my hair was mixed in with braided hair and weave hair. That could lead to more drama when it comes time to take the weave down.

Definitely agree with this. I wouldn't chance it, the potential for error is too great. You wouldn't want all of your progress to go down the drain. If you must, I would break that up into 2 installs. 2 months for one and 2 months for the other. 8 weeks is usually the max recommended install time.

I think it varies from person to person. I know some people that can wear an install for 12-16 weeks at a time with absolutely no problems. After some trial and error my stylist and I have decided that for me 6-8 weeks is my limit. If you can wear braids for four months you may be able to do the same with a weave, but definitely be careful and take it out at the first sign of any tangling or matting.

When I say this pls understand I am not trying to sound rude. I think alot of set backs are due to the fact that people know something is a big no no but they do it anyway. If u choose this route PLEASE be careful. I am getting my first install in a couple of weeks and I will be watching my hair like a hawk with a goal of going 12 max.
You also said that you got good growth with your braids. You hair will grow regardless of being in or out of weaves, wigs, etc. It is the retention that should be our concern.

Again PLEASE be careful.
