They say a setback is a setup for a comeback.

Well, I decided to get a weave a few months ago. It was itching and shedding so bad that I had to take it out two months later. Which, I guess is the right amount of time.

As I was taking it out, I noticed a good amount of hair was being lost. At the end of the day, I had no real growth (in my opinion) and I think I lost a lot of hair. Even my husband thinks my hair is a bit shorter.

Has anyone ever experienced this after a weave? What did you do to get back on track?

It is natural to see the loss of a startling amount of hair when a weave is removed. Hair that was shed (and trapped) while wearing the weave is all released at once. It doesn't mean you lost EXTRA hair, just that you're seeing two months worth of it at one time.

Regarding your DH, mine thought my hair was shorter also after taking down a weave. It actually wasn't; it was the effect of my NG making my overall length appear shorter, but he couldn't see that until my hair was fully straightened. It had actually grown quite nicely. :yep:

Now that you've taken out the weave, pamper your hair. Give it all the moisture and protein that you weren't able to while you were wearing the weave. You'll be fine. :bighug:

I agree with soulie. Your new growth shrinking up is making your hair appear shorter. After you relax, check and see the length. And you had 2 months worth of shedding so you should have shed a lot of hair during take down.

My hair always thrived with hair weaves and braids as long as I kept it moisturized. Instead of braid spray I would use S-curl and when I would take my hair down my hair looked like a nice curly braid out.

Moisture is very important. Good Luck.

Yeah I just dealt with that last month. To get myself back on track, I washed my hair after taking the weave out, and just started moisturizing and moisturizing and deep conditioning, just to get my hair to a healthy state, and I chopped off a few pesky ends, and then I got a wig, and wore it, so that I didn't have to manipulate my hair as much. Less manipulation made my hair grow one inch in a month, and I had regained the inch that I lost from the weave. It's kind of like starting from square one, and you can't just tend to your hair as you usually would. You have to treat it extra special when hair loss like this occurs because you need it to be protected. and moisturized.
