Has anyone actually loosened their texture?

In hair purgatory
I've seen so many topics about doing XYZ and it softens/loosens pattern or taking XYZ supplement makes NG softer/looser but had anyone actually had a major change (like 4a to 3c or 3c to 3b) or is this just a placebo effect? why are people raving about XYZ method to make hair "soft" when a regular conditioner or DC can give you soft hair. its very confusing:perplexed

i found the coconut lime thing did loosen my curls some, henna didnt really loosen my curls like on a lot of people. i found with the coconut it went away after a few washes tho, and it was hardly noticeable but my bf could also notice the change so it must have been somewhat noticeable.

i dont think any natural product put on your hair will give results forever, and i wouldnt say for me it changed my hair classification more or less jus slightly made my hair hang a little lower when airdried

I have been using WGHO on my NG 3 times a week since January and it appears to be loosening my NAPPS. :spinning: I was not expecting this at all from WGHO and it has me really amazed and stumped!

msm at high doses and silica did change my hair texture. it was a time i had never used heat on my newly natural hair for at least a year and was natural, mind you i was taking high doses though and my hair 4b started getting straighter and would not shape like a fro anymore, meaning even braidouts would not hold

it would still be nappy 4b but nappy straight

and my real texture

so yes the hair texture can be loosened. and the pix of my real texture is when i stopped taking 12grams of msm when i run out. but afterwards even though the texture was not the same, it was never back to my original fro prior to msn, and silica and after a year i introduced heat so that s a whole another story:rolleyes:

My hair hasn't changed 'classifications' but it's definitely softer and easier to detangle. I don't really want to get rid of my curls, I just want them to be easier to comb, ya know?

i just found it somewhat misleading. i didnt even get a softening effect. they made my hair dry. bump for more replies

I think people waaaaaay exaggerated their results in those threads. Like they just really really wanted it to work, you know.

I've tried the milk and the yoghurt. Neither loosened my hair. The yoghurt did seem to make it stronger though (of course - protein.).

Ekomba hit it on the head. I use the coconut/lime and caramelization. My hair is still nappy but it's stretched and soft. If people are looking to make their hair straight without using chemicals...SORRY! I love my naps and I like them soft and stretched. This means I can still fro it or twist it out and it's still so soft to the touch. I think those that get those real eye popping hair texture changing results are those that flat iron. I can imagine how my hair would look flat ironed after the coconut/lime. I'm sure it would look like I had a relaxer versus looking like natural hair that was flat ironed. KWIM?

**EDITED TO SAY*** I'm on a no heat diet so I can only answer from that point of view. I can't wait to try the coconut/lime and then flat iron once my challenge date arrives!!!!!

:yep: Everytime I finish a caramel treatment, I ALWAYS think that once (if) I do start using heat, I will ALWAYS do one before flatironing. :yep:

The only thing that loosened/softened for me was the baking soda. In fact, I was concerned that my hair wouldn't snap back but it did. Other than that, milk, coconut milk, yogurt, henna...nothing else has worked for me.

Can you elaborate more? How did you use the baking soda in order to loosen up your hair.

TIA :)

It was a thread started about something else but somehow turned into the baking soda thread....i don't even remember what the original topic was.:spinning: But anyways, I saw someone put a TBSP of baking soda in their conditioner so i tried it. I think I used coconut oil, 1 TBSP baking soda, some seaweed powder and some aloe vera gel and I left it in overnight. I rinsed the next day and my hair felt great for about a week or two. It softened my hair and loosened the curls slightly. I used it once more with the same results.

LOL that was my thread. i tried the baking soda and even had pics but it did nothing but get my hair very clean:look:

Bentonite Clay loosened my texture for a short period of time. I was afraid that my coils were not going to come back, it took about a week, I was so happy.

The search engine is not working for me, so does anyone have a link to the caramel treatment thread.
