Hard new growth?

I have read many posts about soft new growth but I am experiencing quite the contrary. My new growth feels harder than usual. The curls/coils seem to be tighter. I'm not really sure why this would be. I keep thinking its my imagination but when my hair is wet, it is clearly hard. My bf agreed. He seems to think that perhaps my hair is growing in thicker. I would love to go with his theory but I have no idea what's going on.

Does anyone have a theory or has anyone experienced this?

Yep--I'm relaxed! In case anyone is wondering...I haven't taken vitamins consistently since last spring.

Wild Growth Hair Oil will soften it right up -- if you can stand the smell. If not then pure castor oil will. I had super hard new growth after being in braids for a long time and these two products did the trick. Apply to wet hair and the comb will slide through.

I plan on using come castor oil on my hair since I will be needing a touchup soon BUT I just am curious as to why this is happening since I've never experienced this before.

This is happening to me but only in the crown area which is a whole different texture than my front 1/3 of my head. I hope it's only scab hair and it grows in soft soon.

A lot of people have been experiencing softer newgrowth by taking MSM. Are you stretching out your touchups? If so, maybe it is scab hair?

Question about the castor oil: Does it have to be the dark kind or is the light colored oil just as effective in softening the newgrowth?

How long have you been relaxing? I relaxed for nearly 20 years and I stopped because my hair was getting coarser even with relaxer. I think there is a point where our hair starts rejecting the relaxer. Now that I've stopped relaxing, my hair is much softer and finer.

I've been relaxed for almost 20 years....I'm currently 20 weeks post touch up and changes in my diet would probably be my actually eating 3 meals a day now ofr at least 5 days a week now. I had really horrible eating habits.

hmm, I dont know, but i was wondering muyself. My newgroeth at the crown is no joke, its really hard, as opposed to the sodter new growth ive been experiencing in other areas. I'm going to start up on my MSM again to see if it'll help me soften my new grwoth. Wow :shcoked: 20 WEEKS POST RELAXER???? i applaud you!

AngelLuvsUBabe-One benefit of waiting long is to avoid overprocessing. When you wait 10-12 weeks before touch up , there is a significant amount of new growth. The relaxer is then applied to the new growth only with little overlapping on the previously relaxed hair.

Daviine-Drinking 6-10 glasses of water and taking cod liver oil supplements has helped soften my new groth

RUN don't walk - to the nearest Sally's and buy some Sta-Sof-Fro!!! You will be truly amazed! It's cheap too, but your hair will feel like you just spent a $100 on it! It will make your new growth so soft and manageable! It makes my 4A hair newgrowth feel like 3A!! It's just an amazing product!

The hard new growth doesn;t bother me so much--I really wanna know why--not that I'm turning down advice for soft new growth---I'd prefer EFAs to cod liver oil.

Water? What's that? I'm on the water challenge and have been failing miserably---even though my goal right now is only 12 ounces a day (for now).

my back new growth is so dry. just the nape area. Could this be because It's usually the first place I apply relaxer? This is the main place where my hair is breaking off at the relaxed hair and natural hair mark. Everywhere else my hair is soft especially the front which is the last place I apply my relaxer. I'm hoping that this is just 'scab hair' cause I dont like the way it feels back there
