Halle berry cut

Does everyone realize that when they refer to a short cut that they always say "the halle berry cut" or maybe sometimes they'll say the toni braxton cut?
Do we only refer to this two women b/c in the world's eye they're the only beautiful women with short cuts? What about anita baker, india aire, jill scott(when her hair is short, kelly price, fantasia, kelis, monica, missy etc.

Well when I had that cut back in 1993, I called it the Halle-Tboz cut because my hair was Halle's cut with Tboz's color.

But I see what you mean. I've heard plenty people say, "the halle berry cut"...

Back in the early 90's I was calling it that too, but nowadays I had to check myself and think about why I was still referring to a short/ pixie cut as the halle berry cut when she doesnt have a short cut anymore.
I don't know it's just something to think about. I mean anita baker has always worn a short cut and I never heard "the anita baker cut".

I think that a lot of people refer to it as the "Halle Berry" cut because she is sooo mainstream. From almost the beginning to the height of her career her hair was cut short and many people think that she has made that short cut really popular. It might be also because she is gorgeous, but I like the fact that halle berry's beauty is most exemplified when her hair is short. It tells us that long hair DOES NOT equal beauty.

I feel that it has a lot to do with what is personally pleasing to the eye. When I see someone and their cut if off the chain, I dont really look at them, I see their hair and I try and picture the style on me. Like Growinpainz, I really liked Fantasia cut. I dont really care for it now though.

Halle came on the scene and became popular for being pretty and she set a trend and made it okay to wear short hair in a time where everyone either had long hair or had a weave. Yes, Anita had a nice short haircut but she had a mature look going on, so she was not anyone that I would be getting style cues from. Halle looked young and fresh. Also, as she evolved the short hair evolved to...it wasn't one set haircut.It kept getting better and better. Anita's cut today looked like Anitas cut from back in the day. Still cute but it was nothing that was hot. I don't coin any cut by name now, but back in the day it was definitley all about Halle. No one's hair was hittin' like that! Shoot, Halle's hair now, can't even compare to her short hair.

The post mentioning Jennifer Anniston is the same thing. That Jennifer Aniston layered look was so hot, that it crossed over to us! And that was another cut that evolved over the years. Those two women just happend to be hair trendsetters. Those other women mentioned are setting trends just not the same ones. I mean many larger women got a cue from Jill Scott to be confident and know that beauty does not come in size 0-10 only. From India Arie some women got comfortable in the fact that they didn't have to be all straight haired (Jill and Kelis can be part of this too) Now Kelis got a lot of chicks wearing that throwback style with the sides of their hair shaved. So I dont' think its about just them being beautiful. Its about their place in pop culture.

Back home when women got short weaves or hair cuts it was always referred to as the 'Anita Baker'. I only heard people refer to it as the 'Halle Berry' cut in this country, so I guess it's a cultural thing.

I think it's because they were the trendsetters that made that style popular in the 90's. That was their signature style. There werent very many ladies in entertainment wearing a short cut like that before they came out. They were in the spotlight and a lot of people were like hey I want my hair cut like Toni Braxton's or Halle Berry's when they went to the salon. My mother was one of those ladies. I really don't think it's that deep. Yeah those other artists are wearing short cuts but they came after Halle and Toni did it.

Actually, when I had my hair cut, I gave my stylist a picture of supermodel Linda Evangelista. Not sure if Halle was popular back then in "89" , but the cut looked more like Halle anyway.

When I got the short cut back in the day it was the Anita Baker cut. Halle was not popular then. I still call it the Anita Baker cut.

off topic. Did you get your frames from Lenscrafters? I was going to get those because I thought they were so different. I really like those. I ended up going with another animal print type of style that was peachy/black.

ITA! Halle looks so much better with her hair short. She's still beautiful with long hair, but her beauty's accentuated more with it short.

Shoot, Halle's hair now, can't even compare to her short hair.

I agree with you. Every time we turn around we see Halle Berry either in a Movie, in a magazine or on TV. She is as mainstream as you can get. Not to mention also very beautiful. I liken it to Xerox. People say" I'm going to make a xerox of this". Well, a xerox is a company not a copy, but they are associated with making copies. Same thing. Halle is associated with really making the short hair cut she sported really sexy and mainstream. So, sorry to Anita, india and all the rest. They just don't have the same kind of mainstream influence. Not to say that they are not sexy or beautiful because they are.

I was about to say the same thing ....there was no Halle Berry when I had that cut, most of the young girls back then (such as myself) wanted the same cut Anita Baker had...and I'm talkin' the mid 80's

I wore both of these cuts in the past. My reason for calling these cuts by these names are because. It was these women (Halle and Toni) are taht made the cuts popular or the cuts are best known for. Mind you I can understand Anita (and her cut is very similiar to Halle's or maybe even Nancy Wilson) but the others came long after Halle and Toni. These cuts were there signature and they came before the others.

Now when you talk about say Kelis, her hair is cut along a different hair style. The other women (Kelly, Fantasia, Monica, Missy), there cuts are different vrsions of the same but however each woman made the style distinctive theirs. Which was great. I "owned" that style grant you but I could wish how would have thought of spiking my hair back then say like Fantasia or Missy.
