Never ! It takes too long to try and grow hair back, and trying to get it to grow evenly on the regular takes skill. I could only imagine trying to grow a whole side of my hair from bald to APL ! If I wanted a similar look I would cornrow one side of my hair or slick it back.

Hey, you only live once and its JUST hair, so have fun. When I was going through hair school I got tired of my hair and i went home one day got my clippers out and shaved my hair down....all of it. I was one of the most liberating feelings i have EVER felt. I cant describe the feeling but I loved it. I keeped my hair short for the next 7 years before I started transitioning. But i ROCKED my hair, I had people biting off of MY styles because I just did what made me feel and look good. So if you do it, rock the heck out of it and make it YOUR style. and I guarantee you'll start seeing people in your town trying to imitate you.

Now that's what I'm talking about, you are really feelin' me on this!

I wouldnt simply because that style is old and played out...just like those dayum mohawks :wallbash:

Hi, thanks for responding. I live in a rather small town, so while it may be played out in Hollywood or where you're from, I have never seen the two examples in my original post on anyone IRL. Maybe I just don't get out much. :ohwell:

Silkii I say just go for it and don't let this thread get you down or dissuade you. It's obvious it's something you're passionate about and honestly...why not. Hair grows back, pictures can be burned (just kidding).

If I was to ask the approval of every person I occasionally talk to when I get dressed in the morning Lord knows I'd be hiding out in my house all day because people can only speak for their own comfort levels and styles.

I want to start a fashion blog (hopefully this summer, sigh) and I think what makes me eager to do it is because I don't care if others love or hate my style I just want to share it and express myself and maybe inspire someone else.

Do you girl, make us all jealous and then sit back and watch while we bite your style. :)

I wouldn't, but I think it looks interesting on some others. Kinda retro. And God help me, my child of the 80s self loves lines shave in the head. I think if you rock it with confidence, it'll be hot.

Like I said, not my thing. BUT I've rocked many a hair style and wig that made people feel the same way, so. . .

I went with choice #1. I do like it - however I'm not really planning on going in that direction with my hair right now. I'm not scared though - if I wanted to do it, I'd rock it. (we're in such a minority ... yeeks!). I like different and interesting and that's what you get with the extreme contrasts in length. I grew up in a small town and still live in one part time. I've never really tried to keep up with the Joneses vis a vis personal style and not about to start now.

In my youth I did all the head shavings I could stand - it was an 80's thing. I had designs, school mascot, boyfriend of the moment, etc. all up in there. I don't think I'll be doing it again. But for those of you who don't mind doing it, go ahead! When you're young, you're supposed to do all this stuff. And it's fun too!

I like how it looks but I don't like the permanence of it. If I wanted the half-shaved look on one side I would just have my hair flat and gelled down on one side.

Shaving my head doesn't faze me at all. I probably wouldn't do it as a natural though. When I was relaxed, MAN! You couldn't tell me not to shave my head. Cassie/Kelis/LaLa game PROPER!

Wow, these poll results are so interesting. So far there's only one person who said they would do it but are too scared. I thought there would be a lot more of that one.

I think 'cause this is LHCF people will be biased. after all 90% of the women here want long hair and the others may not want anything below SL but still want their hair to be thick and healthy.

I think it's cute when it's just a small section (like the pics the OP posted). Me personally, I wouldn't do it--but if you like it. Go for it.

Little Luxe: Thanks for the pump up Hun!

westNDNbeauty: Won't be getting it done until this Sat. I promise I won't leave ya'll hangin'

Tiye: You're right, we are in the huge minority, but I was betting on that though. :yep:

LadyFayard: You're my kinda girl!

Jkelly0204,curlicarib, NikStar and Lady S: Thanks for the vote of confidence ladies.

Once again I want to thank everyone for responding and polling. All views and oppinions are welcome. :yep:

I actually think this look is so low-class. I live in Montreal and there are a lot of the young girls who have started to sport it. I mean there is nothing new here, the SaltnPepper girls did it years ago and we all know it was because the abuse of relaxers messed up their edges... so whenever I see a girl with the look, I am like well "So relaxers messed up your edges, Sista".... Ok I never said that to any of them ... but so tempting :) LOLOLOLOL

not at all. It looks silly and can't see someone advancing to the corner office with this fad of a hairstyle.

I believe do what you like but I hate fuss and dedication. I like to think, "OK. How is this going to look when I jump up on a Tuesday late to work?" or "After I finish my run how will this style look?" or "With no make-up butt-naked in the bathroom?" OK I won't ask ya'll to go all the way inside my head it's crazy in there...I'm sure ya'll understand I've read your responses.

I have a friend that did the BACK like that, so when she had her hair down... nobody ever knew, when it was up, BAM. :) I liked it. And she's natural, so it looked even more unique.

That kind of hair style is for someone who's writing their own checks. Looks nice on some but not for me.

You seem like a really cool and mature person. So many ask a question on here then get angry over responses they don't like. But you have been gracious with every post. I hope the cut turns out just the way you want :yep:, can't wait to see the pics.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate that.

I love the style, but wouldn't do it now. A few years ago.... definitley. Actually, I did a style like this in high school, many moons ago; but it was a small section. I just wanted to add, I spent the Memorial Day Weekend on South Beach and we counted 32 shaved heads with different designs and colors on women. The hairstyle, I am noticing is not just worn by celebrities anymore but anyone "daring" enough to pull it off. If/when you do it please provide pics. :yep:

I think it looks good on some of the celebs, but I wouldn't do it. I'm trying to get me some hair, not shave it off.

Hey OP. I go to a HBCU and I'm from a black town, so I see this hairstyle all the time. Yes, all the time. I have seen a few heads where it looks FIYAH but for the most part, the girls who have this hairstyle look a mess, especially during that phase when it's growing back and they try to gel down the natural side and it's not blending in/matching with the rest of their relaxed hair. I think anyone who does this hairstyle looks like a bandwagon person because they are only doing it because they saw someone else do it.

With that being said, I still think you should do what makes you happy. Just keep in mind how you will be perceived at your job and when you are trying to grow your hair back.
