Half/Half Relaxer Method

I would like to try this method for relaxing my hair. For those who use this method, how do you part your hair(straight down the middle or ear to ear)?

Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Yes, I'm subscribed to Kami. She's a member here, but I wanted some more success stories with this method.

I part it straight down the middle. It's the only thing that works for me. I put petroleum jelly on the side of the part I'm not working with to prevent relaxer from processing it too soon. When I rinse, I put a baggie on the unrelaxed side. I usually shampoo the relaxed side before I relax the other side. Just to make sure no relaxer residue is there. Good Luck! :)

Do you rinse/shampoo in the shower or at the sink? Also, does your unrelaxed side get wet at all?

I just tried this method on my own last week. I broke my 12 week stretch and only went 8 weeks. :perplexed Anywho I parted my hair straight down the middle covered the other side with a plastic shower cap clipped and pinned where needed. I really like the half/half method. Washing was easy I used the hand held shower attachment.

How do you remove the petroleum jelly on the side of the part before relaxing that side?

A small amount of my un-relaxed side got wet which was basically at the scalp along part however, that portion was based with Vaseline and patted dry prior to relaxing I didn't have any problems with straightening or burning.

I part my hair ear to ear, and then alternate which side I start on (back left or right) each time I texlax. I coat the back section with neutralizing shampoo (after shampooing previously and applying 2-minute reconstructor, and rinsing a few times), then do the front. I rinse in the tub, but with a hand held shower head so only my head/hair are in the tub.

I am similar to ^^^^

I part from ear to ear. I do back first then front. I base with vaseline the whole head first. Then relax back. Rinse and apply neutralizing shampoo and cover with a shower cap. I then do front and rinse and shampoo whole head again until its all out. Then do a 2 min reconstructor and conditioner.

I tried this method on my first time relaxing hair and can defo see how the method is a good idea and it has worked for a lot of women; but I must be a retard cause I got my whole other side of my head wet whilst trying to rinse the first half.

I parted ear to ear. Next time I will do it the regular way which should be fine as I did my whole hair last time. I think I will be quick enough when merely touching up.

 I'm one of the uncoordinated people...that happened to me the first time I attempted half and half. This last it was all good.

I rinse under the the bath faucet. I'm short so it works for me. I think I would have difficulty doing it in the shower or sink. I'm used to it, but I'm sure the sink or shower would do just as good. My unrelaxed side doesn't get wet. I just put a hair tie on it, and no water gets on it.

I usually just wipe it down with towel. Petroleum jelly doesn't stop much, so ime if some is left, the relaxer will still process the hair.

ok i wont knock the method - but the user
over a period of several months i suffered a major setback, and when i look at where my breakage is, i cant help but fault this method so be sure to know what you are doing with this.

when i used to do this, i parted ear to ear, and relaxed the back first. it def allowed me more time to get the hair straighter and i liked the results, and i didnt feel rushed. if my unrelaxed side got wet, then i jus lightly blow dried it before i started that side

I relaxed ear to ear using MsKibibi's method of securing the plastic caps and my hair on top/front stayed dryed while relaxing and rinsing the back. I did have to return to my old method of relaxing my entire hair in 1 session using my hands to apply, because I kept getting texlaxed results using the applicator brush. But I do like not being rushed with the half & half method, so I'm going to try it again.

I used this method when I was relaxed. I parted straight down the middle. It really helped me to prevent overprocessing.

I did this the last 2 times I relaxed. I parted straight down the middle and secured the part I wasn't relaxing with pins and a shower cap. I relaxed, protein treated, and neutralized one side first. Then I go to the next side, and apply vaseline/conditioner mix along the part on the previously relaxed hair. I really like this method because I don't get under or over processed. I just need to learn how not to get the other side completely soaked. Since I get the other side so wet, I have to sit there and wait until it dries before I start to relax it

Hey Blaqphoenix! Where do you rinse?

Bumping... :bump: I'll be attempting this method today. I feel too rushed doing my whole head at once. I have one big question though:

WHICH PARTING IS EASIER-- FROM EAR TO EAR OR FRONT TO BACK? I'm having the biggest dilemma choosing which way to part it for minimal chance of wetting the other side. I have a detachable shower head if that helps.

outspokenwallflower I've recently started using this method. I did it for the last two touch ups and I found parting from ear to ear was easy for me.

I parted ear to ear. I believe you have more control of application and rinsing by parting this way. The top half of my head didn't even get wet when I parted this way.

Also, I regret using this method. I'm texlaxed so this method caused me to relax bone straight. I applied it so quickly that it ended up processing more than usual.

Thanks! The bolded is actually good news for me because I like to be relaxed bone straight.
