I only remember Huile masketi from when I was younger. It was good I guess, I had a thick head of hair ( from family accounts ).

I haven't purchased any lately....I am currently using Macadamia Nut Oil as a deep con or pre treat...if I get my hands on the huile and add it to the regime I'll be sure to let you know.

After all the discussions we've had concerning the Ojon palm oil and then the red palm oil I decided to conduct an experiment. I ordered my sample of Ojon along with some red palm oil. I used the Ojon first as a deep leave in over night treatment. The Ojon felt so good on my hair and the smell was heavenly. It is more of a dry oil to me and did not leave my hair weighed down or feeling heavy. The next morning I washed it out my usual way shampooing twice. I did a light conditioning and dried it as I usually would. As per everyone else my hair felt wonderful. It was so soft and silky feeling and it did not clump together but rather felt and looked like one smooth silky sheet of hair. For conditioning purposes this oil gets a 10/10.

Two days after the Ojon experiment I mixed up so red palm oil. It is very red and it stains whatever it comes in contact with orange, so beware, though I did get it out when I washed my clothes. I think the smell is awful so I had to try and change that with fragrance oils. I would have used essential oils, but I didn't have any that would blend with the natural scent of the RPO. I used Sandalwood, Jasmine, and Neroli. This improved the RPO smell greatly. I put it on my hair at night just like I did the Ojon and worked it through the ends. It is also a dry oil and felt just like the Ojon. The next morning I washed it out as per usual and dried it. The results were identical to the Ojon. I absolutely love it and for conditioning purposes it also gets a 10/10.

All in all the two palm oils perform the same, but the Ojon smells better and is a little more convenient to use. It doesn't stain your clothes or bedding. I would call the red palm oil the Poor Woman's Ojon and I would use it, but I am going to try this experiment again with the refined palm oil and see it works as well as the red palm and Ojon. If it does, I will be sure to update this thread. I also intend to use the Lecithin to mix in some more conditioning ingredients such as liquid silk protein and panthenol. If I come up with a super recipe I will post it on the Recipe Board.

I recall that Prairie Child is also experimenting with the palm oil, coconut oil, and shea butter. This sounds awesome and I may end up incorporating some of her thoughts and ideas as well.

I hope this is not illegal..........:ohwell:

Good info CCD! Thanks!! I got my sample of the Ojon but haven't given it a fair try yet. Might go the "Poor Woman's Route" if I am to use it at all!

LaNecia, you are so welcome :)
Let us know what you think of Ojon......I might try the RPO as soon as I find somewhere that sells it.....locally that is. Maybe after my next TU.

Good luck

Any updates? The guy at the BSS basically admitted that the $55 Ojon is palm oil with fragrances and as much as told me to go to the African market and try the RPO! He was an African and was familiar with RPO.

CCD, did you try the refined palm oil? How did that work? TIA.

i have gallons of red palm oil at home and i also tried this. i mixed it with all my my deep conditioners. then i left on my hair overnight. what can i say? soft moisturised hair. which reminds me, ill be doing this tomorrow....i have too many products so its hard to stick to one. but ill try my best to stick with this one. i also give RPO 10/10

ETA:
i just remembered that i dont shampoo cept when i clarify bimonthly. well, i guess ill be doing an overnight treatment before the day i will be pooing...

Thanks a lot, CCD. I am going to tryt o find that or the Huile Masketi. Are there haitian stores in NYC that I can try to find it in? TIA.

My parents are from Haiti so I am very familiar with Huile Masketi which is nothing more than Castor Oil. My mom had a castor oil plant in our back yard when I was a child. She made the oil from scratch.

Great thread. I swear by Ojon right now. But I would love to find something that gives my hair the shine, moisture, bounce, etc at a fraction of the cost. So far, I have found NOTHING! I will try this between Ojon fixes!

Thanks for the thread!

I am currently obsessed with Ojon. It makes my hair shiny and manageable and I swear my hair is growing, but it might be because of the Nioxin as well. Ojon is definately a keeper.

this stuff is the best for my hair. I can't believe the softness it gives my hair. Love it, love it!!!

I have been using the Ojon and I love it. I will eventually try the Red Palm Oil. If it's a good as Ojon for less, I willing to try it.

Is L'huile Masketi any better than Jamaican Black Castor? If so, I think someone should buy some in bulk from Haiti or wherever and sell it to her fellow LHCFers.. I'd be first in line.

Hi ladies,

I did some research, Googling, etc. The Ojon treatment is palm nut oil but is sourced from Brazil. However, it is the same tree species (?) as the African palm nut tree (Elaeis guineensis). Also, www.mountainroseherbs.com has the oil (sourced from Brazil) for a lot cheaper than the other websites mentioned. But they only sell in gallon and 5 gallon sizes. This is probably where I'll be buying when I decide to try it.

I ordered some of the virgin palm nut oil after the thread on Huile Masqueti. I am still waiting on it. However I did see Red Palm Oil in Whole Foods today. I can't deal with the staining. i have enough cleaning up to do after 2 kids and a hubby.

I have been wanting to buy the Ojon for a long time but the price is not cute! Has anyone else tried the red palm oil? If so, were the results similar to the Ojon?

I did get the red palm oil. Well. The experience was really nothing to write home about. However, I guess with this type of heavy oil I should not have allowed it to get on my scalp because I had the worst dandruff after that treatment. I never have dandruff. I had to wash again really good a few days later.

Ojon & red palm oil are the same, with ojon ur paying alot of extra bucks for the fragrance and ease of use and is doesn't stain like red palm oil.

I bought a tub of Ojon and felt i so stupid and angry at myself for fallin for the hype & marketing promos as I am african and have **** loads of palm oil at home which i use 4 cooking but felt there must be some unknown magical potion in ojon with all the raves i was reading about. As soon as i opened the tub i was just like wtf, this is just palm oil made pretty:eek: . I bought the ojon tub for £26 and buy 2litres of palm oil for £2.50 I felt cheated.
