Hairdresser said my hair is porous?!!!

Im confused, i went to the salon to get my hair relaxed after stretching it for 3 months. I haven't seen her in over 10 months but she said to me that my hair is very porous, that when she applies the relaxer my hair soaks it up that she have to add more. If she didn't add more then my hair would not be straight.

Is that a bad thing that my hair does that? I guess i was left kind of perplexed after that.

Nonetheless my hair feels great, she did a conditioning treatment for me and it looks so much better.

Maybe you need porosity control. I think that it is by roux. It says that it should be used before chemical processes to even out prosity in hair.

Okay, I think your hairdresser is just making an excuse for not knowing the correct way to relax your hair. Of course your hair is porous all relaxed or color treated hair is porous. Anytime you have any chemical process it changes the porosity of the hair.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

So the idea is to apply the porosity control THEN apply the relaxer over that?

The Roux Porosity Control is a shampoo and a conditioner. From what I've learned, you use it on a regular basis like a few weeks before your relaxer. It lowers the PH balance of your hair.

Oh, and I also meant to add that by using it a few weeks before it's been known to make the condition of your hair better (less porous or whatever) and your relaxers straighten more evenly.

My mom went and got her hair cut yesterday and was asking the woman why her hair doesn't hold oil well. The woman said that maybe her hair is too porous?? I don't know, but I think that I'm going to have my mom use this Roux Porosity control conditioner that I bought from Sally's.

Im thinking the same thing, i've hardly been to her salon but she's the only one i've been to. I don't know, i think she just used the wrong term maybe, and if she's using the wrong term then she really doesn't know what she's talking about.

I would like to find a salon where the hairdresser really knows what they're talking about and can advise me on what exactly my hair needs to thrive. However most of them charge a lot of money and it's money i just don't have right now.
I wont be sticking with her for too long thats for sure.

Hair doesn't not have to be excessively porous, even after a chemical treatment.
Heavy chemical treatments may make your hair a little more porous than virgin hair.
If your hair is excessively porous, it's a BAD thing. It will suck up conditioners/relaxers, water. anything up really fast.
It means your hair is, or becoming damaged, and that it's PH level is off.

The roux stuff is great.
Roux will adjust your hair's Ph for you..

The first poster who's hair feels nice now, after the conditioning treatment might've had a Ph conditioner, that's why her hair feels so nice now...

but yes, best thing to do is put the porosity control on Before any chemical treatment you do...

I went to Sally's Beauty Supply yesterday and saw that they do also have a Roux Porosity treatment. It's sold in packs for $1.89 (or something like that).
The shampoo and conditioner is very expensive!

What are the signs that your hair is too porous?

And is Vitale's Positive Conditioner good for balancing pH and correcting porosity?

Just try the small bottle first. If you like what it does, then invest in the larger ones. It's worth it if it works and will help keep the hair healthy. I personally only use the conditioner.I use it a couple of days before I color and then right after I color.I follow it with a deep conditioner after coloring. IT's great.

y'know what? it is. (i only use the conditioner though)
I bought a big bottle of the conditioner a couple of weeks ago, cuz i was desperate. my hair was all knotting and clumping up, and just didn't feel right.
20 dollars.

This has been the best investment for my hair I've done so far.
After the first two washes with it, it took out all the matted hair that had clumped together.

Now, 4 weeks later, all I do is I deep condition with some porosity control mixed with CPR (it's in my hair right now as I type), and my hair stays silky and detangled all week. It is my official 1nce a week regimen.

Edited to say: Oh thanks, but I don't need to use it. I was just checking it out while I was in Sally's. I thought about using it after taking down my braids, to make sure my texturizer straightens evenly, but I usually wait a week or so and do CD washes before using chemicals anyway and it's fine.
