dear guys,
the other day, i was rooting around my closet, and found this weleda rosemary hair lotion i bought last year. The scent was great (rosemary and peppermint) but the product was nothing to speak of.

N-E ways, i was thinking, suppose i infused some alcohol (preferablely rye) with scalp stimulating, hair growth herbs in the alcohol, and use them like you would tinctures. You know, you add a few drops of tincture to the water that you drink so that you ingest the benefits of it, what about addding the tincture of herbs (like a few drops) to your conditioner, hot oil treatments, hair dressing and the like? So that you get the benefits of the tinctured herbs w/o the drying effects of the alcohol?

Does this idea seem promising? I mean, it would be fairly easy to get the herbs, but instead of infusing them in water you could do it in alcohol.

Or should i just stick to infusing them in teas and oils instead?

Please share your thoughts on this.

I think that i'm gonna do it anyway, and report back.

Hi Canuk,

This sounds like a product I use called Hair Rush http://www.iherb.com/hairrush.html

Please note that I'm not recommending this product but what you described made me think about it. The reason I'm not recommending it is because it is a product that you have to be very careful with and it does contain alcohol. I mostly put a couple of drops in my pomade when I use it and sometimes when my hair itching.

Hi Canuck,

I think its a good idea. I use tinctures in a variety of health and beauty recipes. Here's a recipe From Nature with Love on making tinctures:

Making a Tincture
Instructions:
Place 6 - 8 oz of dried herbs in a large glass jar. Pour about 10 oz of vodka over the herbs and then add about 20 oz of water. Mix and then let it sit in a dark cool place. Shake the bottle every so often for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, strain the liquid through a fine cheesecloth into a dark amber glass bottle. Tinctures can be used to make balms, creams, lotions, salves, toners, etc. To make a calendula, lavender, chamomile or other herbal cream, replace the water with 1 part water and 1 part tincture.

To make a vinegar tincture, follow the above directions but replace the vodka with vinegar.

Hope that helps...

thanks lala,
the info that you gave confirmed what i thought i could do. I would add a few drops of the tincture conditioners or something. I may just infuse some of the herbs in almond oil and make a pomade with it as well, so i would be layering the herbs into the hair in a sense.
thanks again for responding you two.
