Hair Suggestions: Styling and Maintining curls

Does any have and suggestions for my hair as far as styles my thick curls, the curls in the front are much looser than in the back. I'm challenged in the styling area (i.e i just learned how define them and I've been natural since 2001). I've just recently stopped flat ironing my hair so and just started learning about curl maintenance. I can never get a second day curl because my hair is crushes and ends up frizzy with or without a hair scarf is there certain way I should tie it. Here are some pictures of what I'm working with.

Wow, I have the same problem. I have to baggie my hair at night if I want to get a second day of curls instead of running through the house with a wet head.

I would say gel. I don't know how you feel about them, but gels help to hold curls in place. Also you may want to twist you hair there was a video that I saw that may be helpful:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFVEcXfdNo0
