HAIR STEAMER ALTERNATIVE?

I saw a YT of someone putting a facial steamer under a hooded hair dryer. So, I bought a steamer like the one above and face it to the back of the hooded dryer I already owned and I use it like that. The only problem is that the clothes steamer gets REALLY hot, so be careful.

i purchased a clothes steamer on friday...it was $21....i used it under the hood of my dryer...i liked the way my hair and face felt afterwards...naheda72 is right...you have to be super careful with it...no day dreaming or getting distracted...i used it until all the water was gone out of the holder...it took about 15 minutes...

This might be a good idea. Can you show us a picture or diagram about how you rigged this?

liberation....sorry no pics...it's a conair handheld fabric steamer...i placed a big sheet over the hood of my dryer and sat under it with the steamer held straight up and slightly above my head but not in direct contact with it...i wrapped my hand with a wash cloth to protect me from the occasional drip of hot water...once it was empty i turned it off...i hope this helped to clarify any of your questions...

Thanks ladies. I was going to get the conair steam iron until my husband scared me half to death about all of my hair fa,,ing out. I'll try again this week

i'm interested in this but all the WARNING posts kinda got me scared.....be my luck, i'll scorch all my hair and it falls out. um...maybe i should just save my pennies and buy the real deal.

In another thread someone suggested I wrap a damp towel around my head and sit under the hooded dryer. I'm told this works but doesn't give the 100% effects that a steamer would. Oh well.

I tired the towel method & I was impressed. My hair feels extra soft, bouncy, moisturized. I tried bantu knots & it straightened ny ng alot

do you mind journaling exactly what you did to achieve the extra, soft, bouncy, moisturized feel? i have a visual of what i assume i would do but would like to have it detailed by someone whose achieved success with the alternative method. TIA!

In the interest of saving my dear hair sisters from the steam burns I envision after looking at that steam iron... here is the link to the Home Grown Steam Treatment (the towel method):

I use this once a week the first six weeks after a relaxer. I then use it every time I wash my hair (2 or 3 times a week) weeks seven through whenever I relax my hair again. It helps when stretching to keep that new growth moisturized.
