i was a examining a strand of my hair when i noticed that it was split.. but it appeared fo be split at the root.. at first I was like nan.. but then I found another one that was for sure split at the root. I noticed this because the split was on the curlier side and my ends are bone straight..

The first one was split in 2 and the second one looked like it was split into 3...

Whats going on here? is this normal??

Help!!! I hope my hair is not taking a turn for the WORST!!!

I have never heard of that before. I have heard of the hair splitting from the ends/mid shaft up to the root. But never the source of the split starting at the root itself.

I hope someone else can chime in to help you!

*big hugs*

I knew it!!! I'm doomed!!!!

Now were these shed hairs you were looking at that were split at the roots? Or were the strands still intact in your scalp?

ETA: Oh never mind you answered my question on your own...so yea if they were shed hairs and there were no white bulbs at the roots, maybe it splits when it detaches from the white bulb.

maybe? It was a shed hair that I saw it on so it didn't really bother me, I just hope it's not something that starts to get worse.

Okay, see, this happened to me, too!!!!! It was pretty early in my hair journey, so I knew the splits were are my root, because this was when I still had dyed hair on my tips - and it was definitely the undyed hair that had split. And, it was all on shed hairs - I could never spot one against my scalp!
I chalked it up to over-hennaing/over-proteining my hair, and it was making my roots stiff enough to split. I think I totally stopped my protein treatments and increased my moisture treatmens, and I stopped seeing them.

Weirdest thing ever. Let me see if I can find the blog post I made about it.
