HAIR SCARE!!!

After reading Foxybronx's post entitled "The New Stylist broke my hair", it made me kind of worried. The symptoms she was experiencing with her hair, i.e. very very soft hair I too was experiencing and not to mention she went to the stylist that does my hair. After taking out my braids, I went to get a touch-up (Revlon) on August 7th and when she rinsed the relaxer out she put conditioner in my hair before the neutralizer shampoo. As she was putting the conditioner in I asked her what she was doing because it didn't smell like the usual neutralizer shampoo but she said it was conditioner. I then asked why she was doing that and why she was using neutralizer shampoo she said that I needed it, I guess my hair was looking so crazy from having the braids she felt I needed the conditioner before the neutralizer poo. So this whole process made me nervous as she has never done this before, then after hearing about Foxy I was really nervous to the extent that I confronted my stylist this weekend. She assured me that I would not loose my hair and I basically told her "I better not"!

she laughed but I wasn't playing. So far it's been 2 weeks since the relaxer and I still have my hair and hopefully it will stay on my head. My hair came out good and I've noticed that in washing my hair myself the comb slides right through without tangles or any shedding which is amazing to me. Is this a result of conditioner before neutralizing, just curious? and I know Affirm relaxer requires conditioner before neutralizing but has anyone used Revlon and conditioned before neutralizing?

I use Revlon and i have never done a rinse with conditioner before the neutralizing shampoo. But things sound so far so good for you as far as the condition of your hair. I would just keep track of the condition of my hair if i were you and watch for any changes. It's good that you are paying such good attention to your stylist

It still has me a little nervous and everyday I'm checking my hair. If anything negative happens to my hair I will definitely go pay her a special visit! Because I've been going there for so long, even though I can't see what she's doing while I'm lying at the sink I know the products by smell.

Well, with all this scare going around... I am downgrading myself and my daughter's relaxer strength to Affirm Mild. This same hairdresser used to do regular. You and Foxy have me worried. Why do hairdressers have to change up... if they do change up, it should be for the better. I was so satisfied with how she was doing hair before and now this??? <SIGH>

Choc, continue to monitor that hair and let me know how it's going......

I agree or either ask me next time before doing it. The relaxer is not the time to test out new things, especially on my head. Foxy said after 3 weeks she noticed the change in her hair, I will definitely keep my eyes open! Next relaxer I will not be getting conditioner before the neutralizing shampoo, too nerve recking!

I know when we get Affirm, the 5 in 1 reconstructor comes after the rinsing of the relaxer of the hair and is followed by neutralizing. With Affirm, this is not a problem. What I will definitely take into consideration is the strength of the relaxer and the length of time left on the hair. Sometimes hairdressers like to relax the hair STRAIGHT within an inch of its life. I prefer to have some texture left in my hair as I rarely wear it down, so definitely will be going for a mild.

In the meantime, do some Emergencee treatments and don't even give it a chance to break off. Nip it in the bud!!!

CP, I think your hair will be fine. I sent Foxybronx a pm and will share it here as well. I read in a hair book that you have to make sure that your stylist rinse the shampoo bowl as well because if they don't then the relaxer will end up in the back of your hair and that's why so many women have breakage in the back area after a relaxer. I neve have that problem because I shared that with my stylist and I always ask her to rinse the shampoo bowl to make sure it does not get into the back of my hair and she does.

Girl my hair is still tooo tooo soft and light, the comb slides through my hair also and it has been 8 weeks since my relaxer. The crazy part is that I ALWAYS get the conditioner before the neutralizing shampoo, and I have NEVER had these results. But you haven’t had breakage so count your blessings! I think your hair will be fine. Like I said I noticed breakage early.

When I was relaxing I always put a light conditioner or a leave in conditioner in my hair and rinsed it out before I neutralized it. I've never had breakage resulting from it. Everyone's hair is different though.

Motions relaxer tells you to use the conditioner BEFORE the neutralizing poo as well. It has always been my understanding though that the conditioner has some neutralizing qualities. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't be skurred...My stylist started putting conditioner in my hair before neutralzing it. I was very worried the first time she did and I posted about that here. But it turns out that this is normal for some stylists because the conditioner is supposed to be penetrating more right after your relaxer because your strands are open. Since then I don't worry about it anymore. I think its fine to do. They neutralize right after and my hair has not fallen out or shed.
