Hair Report - i think i\'m at bra strap! (long)
I sure wish i had a camera because i think i reached brastrap.
i guess i'm a little surprised. but i got my hair flat-ironed for a special occasion this weekend and now here i am!
i think i'm a 3b/c -- don't quite understand the system.
i am an unofficial transitioner since my last touch up in jan (hi hairlove!
). unofficial bcuz i just wanted to take a break and see how my natural texture would look, and also minimize the damage/breakage/shedding i saw. i love the ease of bev's routine and her results, so i am not opposed to perms (lye only) at all -- especially my mizani!
last summer i did suave cw's with air drying/scrunching with basic organics vitamin e ointment from gnc and foe aloe vera gel, and a little world of curls activator. this was my first peace of freedom and beauty with my hair and i was hooked. i almost
felt guilty -- it was so little work with so much return. twistset/braidout results without the work and more importantly, less manipulation! and the style was rainproof!
then after talking to a friend at church, this winter i moved from phony pony (thanks adrienne!
) to wigs (w/protection and moisture of course). it was then i saw major results after flatironing in april.
btw, just in time for my major crush to see it too!
how convenient!
...and then after a brief spring battle with tangles (for which i came to lhcf to be educated on products with slip - edited to say: thank you Supergirl!
), now this summer i am bunning it with surge, only because scrunch and go looks a little strange with the two textures now that it grew.
still, a good thing, no complaints.
but i have found that my new growth is so much healthier! i can really see it when flat ironed! very little hairline breakage -- i am so pleased.
for ladies with shorter hair, give your growth about 2-3 years. i started out with a chin-length bob after trying to get rid of layers from a layer-happy, scissor-happy stylist.
i never got compliments or progress while she was doing my hair, only after i took over! so trust your instincts on your hair. you are paying stylists cold hard cash to fulfill YOUR vision, not theirs. so if they can't/won't do right, like Donald Trump says, "You're FIRED!" Moving right along -- NEXT!
but you know, God is good, because the last perm i got from her, she was asking me about my results and i got to share with her on vitamins and routines. so no need to be bitter.
2-3 years may seem like a long time, but like wanakee says, you can either pass 2-3 years with longer hair, or without it. if you preserve what you get, you can keep your hair and get more. at least in my experience following the info i learned here.
and good news, recently i found me a new stylist with skills who is so sweet and accommodating, sensitive to her trimming, i just MIGHT go back to her in two weeks -- for a treatment that is, no flat ironing i don't think. now i want to maximize thickness and minimize breakage until november (another occasion).
i take biotin (vshoppe 5-10 mg), b5, bcomplex, liquid multivitamin(ran out), msm (ran out), and just started flax seed oil. the only constants though have been the biotin and the liquid multivitamins for those who may wish to know.
i think my sister has a camera, so when i see her i will try to get pics posted as soon as i can. most times i do the lazy lurker thing so we'll see how soon it happens!
sorry!
so thanks LHCF, I'm SO glad the Lord let me find you!
happy hair growing!
