mix together my Sebastians colourshines and some Motions conditioner to make a conditioning colour. I don't like how the colourshines by itself made my hair feel, not so soft and a little tangled

You could do that Caramela - I don't see why not....

The color may not be as intense but I imagine you know that and you'll just want to use it as a refresher, yes?

Sounds fine to me....

Any suggestions on the amounts I should use? I am thinking maybe 1 part conditioner 2 or 3 parts color

I do it all the time. I do it mainly to cover up the grey in the front that has ruined my life. But I wash and then put the conditioner in my hair and then I comb the color through. I use Adore... The Colorshines did nothing for me. After I comb the color through I sit under a heat cap for about 45 minutes. It works just as well as if you did the two step process..(conditioner-rinse, color-rinse)

ruined your life? wow. that must be some serious gray

I'm sure it's not that bad.

Caramela - I'm not an expert on mixing in this sense, but if it were me, I would only add as much color as I needed to turn a given amount of conditioner completely black. So it's looks like your conditioner but just...black...does that make sense?

If you weren't impressed with the coloring capability of Sebastian, and you want to change the FEEL of the hair after, I would think more conditioner and less color would be the way to go....it may not color as well, but you could use a different coloring product that you really like to actually MAINTAIN your color and just use this mixture to refresh. Feel me?

But you could certainly do it either way.

It's a great idea actually! I might try it myself and report back! I'd be interested to hear how it goes for you.

I have some jazzing in my house I could do this with.

Not a bad idea. I didn't like the way Jazzing made my hair feel either. However, Motions color conditioner stuff works well for color and feel, but the color doesn't last as long.

I see.

What are you using besides the Sebastian to maintain the color as far as an actual coloring prioduct is concerned though...?

Anything? Or just the Sebastian for now? Did you try Adore yet? You might like that....

LOL... it's this one patch on the right side of my head... I hate it with a passion. I wish it would just go away and come back when I'm 60. Too young for gray.

I am not using anything to refresh, should I be? What did you like about Adore, Tracy?

It was easier to apply and didn't leave the hair QUITE as stiff immediately after application. Exactly the oppostie of what you disliked about Sebastian. it goes on creamier during application. And the hair is a little less...I dunno - but I understand what it is you don't like about the Sebastian (besides the price). It resists the comb a little when you first do it. That's how come I take it to the hairdresser most of the time when I do that one. So I don't have to deal with how my hair feels just immediately after. The application is harder for me to manage.

When I apply rinses at home, I use Adore. It's only 4 bucks for 4 ounces. With the Sebasitian you GET more for your money - but if you hate it, what's the point of having MORE, right?

You don't refresh? How often do you re-apply? That's what I mean by refresh

- the product you use when you want to touch up your color so to speak. Only with rinses you do the whole head everytime.

I forgot about the Motions Conditioning Colors. I could start using those to cover my high lights.

Tracy, I retouch whenever I get about an inch or 2 of my natural color, but w/black semi permanents, it seems like they don't come out, and I don't retouch the length. It's black as ever, and I love it. I might try the adore, but I have quite a bit of the colourshines left. I might do a little mixing this weekend and see what happens. My roots are a lil brown.

I just don't like Colourshines.... I mixed up the remainder of my colour w/some motions conditioner and applied, and although my hair wasn't AS tangled, mangled and a mess...the product is just messy! I don't think it's worth the $25 I spent on it. I won't be making a reorder. I really like other Sebastian products though. This one and I just don't get along

Ah....I was really hoping that this would work for you. I have some leftover Mahoghany sebastians and I wanted to try your experiment. I used Bark Brown hennalucent awhile ago and although its still dark, its drab dark and I want a warmer hue to it. Do you think they are just incompatible products?
