Ladies, here's a new YouTube video that Chicoro posted about four hours ago.

Hair that has been chemically altered tends to be high porosity or porous hair. Hair that has not been chemically altered, tends to be natural. virgin hair. Porosity is on a continuum or a scale or a range. That means that your hair will rest at some here closer to either the high porosity or low porosity side. You WANT to have a hair strand that is low porosity. In general, porous hair is damaged hair.

Hmm I have high to normal porosity at the moment, but I'm natural. No chemicals, or straightening.

Can't watch the video now but trust me you don't want low porosity hair either  It can be a pain in the butt.

My hair is relaxed and it is low porosity.

For me high porosity hair dries faster and tends to not shrink as much. Low porosity hair takes longer to dry and shrinks. I do not think that porosity has anything to do with damage. My friend has natural hair and she is high porosity and even though she is a 4b, because her hair dries fast and doesn't shrink it looks very different than women I know with 4b low porosity hair.

Best,

^^ I have never read porosity being linked to shrinkage. I think the 'tends to' is to recognize there are exceptions. Chemical treatments do tend to alter the porosity of hair, but so does wear and tear. I think she is giving a general guide.

I am natural and low-normal porosity, and I don't struggle with moisturizing or conditioning my hair as long as I use water based products and don't use heavy butters or oils.

This is the hardest concept for me to grasp. The mixed comments is one reason why. I guess somewhere in the middle is best - meanwhile I have no idea where my strands stand.

My hair was low porosity when relaxed too. But since porosity has degrees my cuticle was more open relaxed than natural. But I still couldn't keep a relaxer.

No worries, you're not the only one. I stay lost on this subject & have no idea where my strands stand as well.
