I have now declared officially that my hair is in a state of emergency. I tried pre-pooing last night and figured that it's a definite no-no for me. I lost entirely too many strands this mroning. I'm so upset right now at my loss it's ridiculous.

I can't figure out what it is that I'm doing wrong. I feel like I'm hitting dead ends in every method I attempt. :wallbash: So it's kind of like...now what?

Problem: Hair is breaking and shedding like there's no tomorrow. I have some normal shedding that's within the normal bracket but I have little pieces of hair that are just coming off in pieces.

I just had a baby about 8 months ago, so my hormones should be balanced now. I've had my thyroid checked and it's normal. The only other change has been my form of BC. I hate to give too much information but I have an IUD and people keep telling me that it will not affect my hair. I'm thinking otherwise.

Any suggestions will help. I did try some homemade garlic oil about 2 weeks ago but I can't say I saw a diffrence.

Thanks in advance ladies!

if the IUD stops your periods, then that affects your hormones that can affect your hair

do you take any EFA's?

Omega 3 and 6?

You gotta give us more info, girl! :)

What's your reggie and what products do you use? Are you relaxed or natural?

Without being too nosey, what KIND of IUD (plain copper, Mirena?)? How long ago did you get it and when did you start noticing changes in your hair?

Also, are you relaxed or natural and what is your regimen?

How are you pre-pooing and what are you using to pre-poo. If a pre-poo is causing you to have breakage then you need to correct something asap. BTW: Broken hairs is not shedding, it is breakage and breakage is generally caused by being to rough to hair or the hair being too weak or brittle because there is not a protein/moisture balance.

Are you dc'ing on a regular? How often do you do protein treatments?

I'm still having them. There off-cycle but they are still there. I know it takes time to adjust to BC since this is about the only option I had left. My body reacts horribly to BC.

I don't take anything right now. I wished I had filled all my prescriptions for my prenatal vitamins. I could handle those.

Sorry, I forgot to list all of that!

I wash 1x per week
Co-wash 1x per week
DC 1x per week
Moisturize and Seal every other night
Relaxer Every 8 weeks

Products=?? I have so many now that I've just decided to use CON and Silk Elements for my DC. I did have honey in my conditioner also.

I'm relaxed and I've had the Mirena since around May 25. My hair was breaking and shedding like crazy around that time and it could have been from lack of care or hormonal changes. Bad part is that they checked my thyroid and it's perfectly fine. I noticed after 2 months, but like I said I wasn't doing the proper care either.

I wasn't saying that my shedding was breakage but I'm having both. I have some hair that is shedding...which is normal for me in the winter. But when the strands are coming out together, it freaks me out. The breakage I'm having seems to be little pieces that come out here or there whenver I comb or detangle. Mainly this happens when my hair is dry. I can't figure out what is causing the breakage on top of the x-tra shedding??

I only DC once per week. I only do protein when it's needed. I usually use the 2 minute reconstructor by Aphogee.

my son is 13months now and i also had a mirena fitted around this time last year and my hair broke so as bad it was too my scalp in the middle, when i researched it at lot of women were saying there hair was breaking. When i went to the GP he said my body had to get used to it and my body was getting used to the hormone change it took a while but it did stop but then i did not no about aphogee i dont know if that would have made a difference

Well see, my doctor acted like I ws totally crazy when I suggested that it might have caused some of my hair issues. :ohwell: Well, I'm keeping a close watch on this and keep my Aphogee products close. About how long did you keep it, if you don't mind answering?

well i have the iud (mirena) in as well and it hasn't affected my hair, but you should still be taking your prenatal vits. you can get some at walgreens for $9.99(100 pills) i took those during both of my pregnancies since the had the same things in them that the prescribed ones had. giving birth can have an affect on your body for a long time.

are you revering to the mirena i still have it in now! my hair stopped breaking around march time (if i remember correctly) but it took a while for it to start to grow back! im scared to took it out now because im sure there will be another imbalance. AT tha time i was natural and was in braids so i know it was that!

Don't know much about the iud. While I was pregnant my hair was growing like a weed. After I had my daughter, it began to shed like crazy. It can be a result of your hormones going back to before you where pregnant. Buy some over the counter pre-natal vitamins, that may help. And you may want to look into getting a diaphram if you are worried about the iud.

Sleep on a satin pillow and try to find some garlic shampoo and use consitently until the shedding lets up. I saw some garlic shampoo at Ross's.

I personally think that BC has a HUGE impact on hair- I was taking Depo when I mysteriously lost a patch of hair (like BALD) and my (male) doctor insisted there was no relation- however, when I got off the shot about 6 months later when it was out of my system, the area filled in nicely.

It may not be that, though. Just putting in my two cents.
