Hair ingredients that are bad for children

I'm doing a little research for my sis-in-law. I told her that I remember a news story last year on a major NY network, that reported many products geared toward Af. Amer. contain hormones/estrogen/placenta/cholesterol. These ingredients are easily absorbed through the scalp and lead to premature sexual maturity. The report said that AA & Latina girls were developing years before their white counterparts because of this.

I'm searching the web to try and find either a list of ingredients or specific products that may not obviously list these ingredients. Or, if hormones in shampoos, conditioners or treatments could have other names.

B&B Super Gro has been the only specificly named product. I know that others (like Placent Treatment and Cholesterol conditioners) are obviously named, but would anyone else have a recommendation of what my sis-in-law should avoid on my neice?

lilchanel...Isn't that scary? I wouldn't have thought about hair dress products. I automatically assumed conditioners only. My sis-in-law and I read all the ingredients on all the products in her house, just to make sure she wasn't using any on her daughter.

Shoot I use B&B Oil moisturiser on my 6 yr old's hair and have been for quite some time now. I wonder if this is included. My goodness, if my child plays hard enough she gets a lil funk under the arms. I don't remember getting "musty" when I was 6

Besides that, today I looked underneath her armpits and lo and behold "peachfuzz"

Thanks for posting...I'll have to look into this a little further.

Well B&B has changed the ingredients in their hair grease although though you can still find the one with the hormones.

Thanks for letting us know, I never would have made the connection.

One thing about these articles that irks me is that it only names one product (the B&B). If you're gonna make a claim like that, then they should at least let us know which products they are referring to.

It's like saying, we have found some foods to cause cancer. We are only going to tell you one of them.

hmmm ive been using those products since i was little..they had no adverse affect on me...Although I wouldnt have minded since I still have the body of a 13 yr old (Im 19 by the way) lol

I don't remember getting musty until I was like 11 or 12..not to mention, it took me forever to grow underarm hair...LOL

I have also noticed that she has peachfuzz under her arms and on her legs...and guess where else?? yes, her pubic area!!!
