Hair help needed for my almost 2 year old

My daughter is almost 2 and some days I can't really do her hair because she won't sit still. I have tried putting her in her high chair, but she will rock back and forth and try to throw herself around. I put on her favorite cartoons and that does not work. I know I am not hurting her because I use Parnevu leave in conditioner on her hair daily and it detangles so well that the comb I use just glides through. Most of the time all I can do with her hair is section it into 4 parts and put ponytail holders around the hair. Any help on how I can get her to sit still would be greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions on quick styles would help too.

Try doing her hair while she is asleep (or almost). That usually works. You can even make it fun by putting her hair products (meaning bows, ribbons, etc. not grease, oils) in front of her and ask her to hand you things... you can also put some of her favorite toys in front of her as well or have her read a book to you (i know she can't read but they all have imaginations). I find that having my daughter help me out makes doing her hair not such a hassle. Good Luck!

Dang...I know that gets frustrating. Fortuately my 2 year old LOVES to get her hair done. What I started doing for her way back when, is give her a baby doll and tell her to "do tha baby's hair" while I do hers. I have a big ol bucket of barrets, rubber bands, and so on. She likes to dig through it and do her baby's hair. Also, when she does get in one of her moods and doesn't feel like getting her hair done, I give her one barret and ask her to pick all of the barrets out of the bucket that look the same and give them to me "so I can make momma's baby's hair real pretty." She loves for me to tell her that her hair is "sooooo pretty." HTH

That is a VERY GOOD idea. I will remember that when it's time for me to braid her hair. THANKS

When my now 4 1/2 year old was two and I wanted to do her hair - I used Barney videos. All depending on what I was doing to it. I would get a 30 to 55 minute video. Along with some snacks it worked like a charm. Girl, kids love that purple dinosaur!! Now she will sit still and let me do her hair without the videos thank God.

My problem now is finding a simple regimen that will work on her 4a hair.

Hey Nita... cornrolls always work for my daughter, she has a wholeheapohair (she'll be 3 in August). And the trick is, getting someone else who is much quicker and neater than I am to braid her hair for me. Her other mother (sitter) does her hair for me every 3rd week (i don't like her hair braided all the time so for 1 1/2 week its braided, the other week its in ponytails).
P.S. Barney worked like a charm for me too.

Thanks for all of your advice! Yesterday and today I was able to put her hair in some really cute twists with flower and butterfly barrettes.

Well, I HAD (and still have sometimes) the same problem with my 1 1/2 year-old SON

. I believe it is something that will become easier when they get older.

Anyway, this is what I do. I have had much success doing his hair at night (when he is tired) and while a video of his choice is on or even when he falls alseep (good when braiding his hair)

You may even want to try cutting up your daughters favorite fruits or finger foods and let her snack on that while you comb her hair.

Good Luck!

Well, I have a 1 1/2 yr old with 2c shoulder blade length hair. For the most part, she'll let me comb / style her hair as I desire with lil to no resistance. My secret... I let her play in the big ole bin of barretts & let her have the remote control

. Now washing her her, that's another story all together. SHE ABSOLUTELY HATES HAVING HER HAIR WASHED. I make sure not to get water in her face, but she still hates it.
