Hair growth limits?

Okay, so we're here, we're experimenting and we're learning about our hair. For those reasons, our hair is thriving (or beginning to thrive) and we're exciting about the prospects of reaching our goals. Does anyone consider that there may actually be a limit to our hair growth? I asked my husband once, "How long do you think my hair can get?" He looked at me and said, "ohhhh, about 13 inches." I just looked at him and thought to myself.."I've got to get hair waaayyy down my back just to teach this man something!" There are many who have put limits on our hair growth. Have you put any on yourself? If so, do you think that is contributing to your "plateau"?

Technically speaking there is no reason why people should not get at least a foot and a half to two feet(18 to 24 inches) of hair. This is because your hair will naturally fall out after 3 years or more. Growth rates differ greatly though an average of about 6 inches a year is generally accepted.

Very long hair (Longer than 4ft(48 inches)) tends to be genetic. There is some sort of explanation of hair phases which I have no clue about. I think it was in Cathy's book. There are vitamins which can extend a certain phase, but I'm not vitamin savvy.

I have not put any limits on myself, my goal is to grow my hair for as long as it will grow in 5 years. I think 13 inches is an underestimate.

Leshia!

Now you know (unless your hubby is a hair stylist) that men don't have too much of a clue about things like that. Remember that Coke commercial with LL, where he did his little girl's hair? Remember how one of the plaits was sticking straight up? That sums up men and hair care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, your hair can grow longer than that and no offense to your sweet heart.

True,

Don't forget though that there are supplements such as MSM that can extend the growing phase and reduce the shedding phase of the hair so it's growth potential can be even longer /images/graemlins/smile.gif

omg i forgot about that commerical. that was too funny. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif God bless you all.

Well I think hair grows at approximately 1/2 per month (6" per year) and an individual hair strand life cycle's something like 7 years. So I'm assuming we all could grow hair that's at least 42" long. But then you have to take in account of trims, so that would shorten the overall length to an extent. Additionally, some of us may have shorter/longer strand cycles and others may grow less/more than 1/2" per month. So I say, it's all based on genetics.

But hair should definitely grow longer than 13"

you guyz are definitely giving me hope /images/graemlins/weird.gif I've alwayz thought that my hair was "programmed" by genetics to be short. but now i know better!
