Hair Frustration

I have been tranistioning for 13 months now and I am starting to get frustrated with my hair. I really want to cut the relaxed ends but I have never had short hair before and that makes me really nervous. Also, I am not good with styling hair so the only style that I have been able to wear over the past couple of months is the "faithful" braid out. I am ready to do something different with my hair but I am not creative like that.
Also, I am experiencing major tangles. I have tried braiding it in plaits and then washing and conditiong but that doesn't work for me. I have tried using detangler conditioners and those don't work very well for me.

I don't know what to do. Can someone help me out, please?

I am just 3 months into transitioning, so I really can't answer any questions, but if you look at the top of the forum and click on the "sticky" thread," compilation of support threads", there is a transitioners support thread. There is TONS of info there. hth:D

nikipovi:

I transitioned for a little over a year, and instead of a BC I had my relaxed ends trimmed every few months. When my hair was fully natural I did braids, cornrows, flat twists, twist outs and braid outs in addition to flat ironing. After nearly 18 months or so I too got frustrated and I now have my hair textureized. These are some of the things that worked for me when I was 100% natural:

1. ALWAYS detangle your hair with the conditioner still in it. If you shampoo/condition in the shower, slather conditioner on your hair, use a wide tooth comb and begin gently combing from your ends. You can use the stream from the shower to help you comb. If you use the sink, same thing.

2. Detangle before you get your hair wet. Then try the washing in plaits technique. There is a thread around here (http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=127997) on that and a website: http://www.growafrohairlong.com/shampooingnatural.html

nikipovi, have you checked out MissMarie's fotki? She's been transitioning for 3 years and her hair has always been beautiful.

She stopped relaxing when she was shoulder length. Now she's waist length and she never did a BC. Her natural hair and her relaxed ends look great.

In her fotki she says that she only detangles in the shower with conditioner in her hair.

Thanx, Elizabeth

I will have to check her out.
