Hair Frizzy When Soaking Wet! Why?

My hair (mostly at the top/crown) looks frizzy when its is dripping wet and I'm not sure why.

I don't remember my hair "behaving" like this before, but I suspect its not a good sign. When I get out of the shower it "looks" like I towel dried it by rubbing a towel on my crown area???

Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do about it? I've read it could be high porosity - but I remember placing a strand in water (to test porosity) and my hair floated....I'm so confused but don't think this should be happening.

I hope someone has a solution!

PS: my hair is highlighted (lightened) but that is mostly at the ends - the top is a single process color - i rarely use heat and mostly WNG.

This has happened to me and I remember someone mentioning that my hair possibly wasn't well moisturized in that area. Do you coat that area well with conditioner when you co-wash or deep condition?

Float tests are NOT reliable indicator of porosity. My hair is extremely porous and it never sinks.
As for the topic, well, my hair has been like this since I first went natural. I have absolutely no curls when my hair is wet. I seriously wonder how in the world other women have naturally defined, clumped curls on wet hair.
Nothing has really been able to change this, but I can get *slight* definition with protein and cones. Both slow water absorption, I think, so you could be on the mark about this being a porosity issue.

I have the same issue, mostly in the back. I believe its high porosity, but I have grown and cut repeatedly over the last 5 yrs and my hair is still this way. Protein treatments and cassia help, but I'm constantly battling dryness and frizz. I'm starting to wonder if this is just how my hair is because I have tried a lot of things to no avail.

ChocolatePie777 i did an acv spritz on friday after I pre-poo'd and DC'd. i followed the acv rinse with my regular wash-n-go.

i am hoping build-up is the answer.

Ladybug33 i need to figure out the porosity of my hair. but you could be onto something. I condition (and my hair never seems to get enough conditioner) but maybe it is not very well "moisturized." i don't know its frustrating.

i've been natural for over 10 years and this is the first time i've really noticed this problem. Now that I think about it, my hair hasn't looked "wet" (meaning it looks frizzy) for a while. The ends look wet, but not the top. Not sure what is going on but it needs to be fixed.

grownwomanaz and oddly enough when my hair is styled (and dry) and i have product in, it doesn't look frizzy. (well, when my curly stylist does it, it doesn't look frizzy, i'm still learning how she does that.) but this not looking wet when its wet thing is irritating! and obviously indicative of a problem....i think.

Could it be you need more moisture to that area. Try a prepoo with coconut oil. You may have to add more moisturizing product (LI) to that area.

Have you tried a reconstructor or protein DC recently; maybe incorporating them regularly. It sounds like high porosity. This will help to correct that (regular protein dc's).

virtuenow i haven't tried protein DC, but i am willing to try anything! i will get some this week!!

i was also told to try Roux Porosity control...so maybe i'll look into that. I think its protein based.

I have that problem when I disturb my curls natural curl pattern while combing through damp hair only. Detangling while holding my hair under RUNNING water helps control frizz. It gets rid of the snags easier. It's the main reason why I go through two 30 oz bottles of conditioner a month. Once detangle the hair is a lot looser and smoother while wet and the conditioner can do its job more effectively. It doesn't matter how dry or tangled my hair is. This method gives me smooth, quenched and defined curls every single time.

I'm high porosity and don't have that problem. I believe my frequent use of proteins, protein behaving products (coconut oil), and ceramides might be the reason why.

BraunSugar - okay.....interesting. Protein behaving products like coconut oil? I've never heard that one before. So coconut oil strengthens and acts like a protein on the hair? Because I HAVE been on a coconut oil KICK since December (when i got my highlights!) cream idea too???

wyldcurlz It dawned on me a few days ago that about year or so ago, I stopped using heat for my DCs. I started doing overnight DCs or DCing for several hours without heat. Welp, I guess that was a mistake because I wasn't getting enough deep moisture as a result. My hair is a lot happier/less frizzy since I returned to using heat with my DCs, but still not 100% frizz-free lol.

Ladybug33 right now i am trying to increase moisture & sealing. which i wasn't great at before...it seems to help a little. if this doesn't produce results, i'm going to increase protein.

grownwomanaz - perhaps i need to try heat with DCs. i currently just leave something in for a long time - like you're doing.

Thanks for checking in ladies! My goal is to figure this out and come up with an answer!!
