HAIR DYE -never getting the right colour!

It really stresses me out -I try to get a colour to dye my hair, but it never ends up that colour -half the time it doesn't even show!

For those ladies who have dark hair, what brand colour do you use that WORKS on your hair, with real results?

I want mine in a deep dark brown- any suggestions?

I got this from "No Lye" (page 134):

"Mature locs are very difficult to color. The loc is a cylinder of hair that is constructed of layers upon layers of tightly packed strands. If you are coloring your hair a darker shade than its natural color, it will take much longer. You will probably have to use two to three times more product. If you are seeking to go to a lighter color, I strongly urge you to seek a natural hair care professional who specializes in coloring natural hair."

She goes on to say how lightening the hair is a meticulous process and has to be timed properly or you risk not getting the color you wanted or (worse!) damaged hair. She says vegetable dyes are the safest, but henna and permanent dyes can also be used.
