Yes, I've worn my hair down quite a bit during my hair journey. Many times, I wear it in a curly style, like in my siggy, and I've still managed to retain growth.
I've worn my hair down nearly all of the time and gone from chin length to just shy of bra strap. I have just started working out and I put it up in a bun for that.
Here here...I wore wash n gos most of the year and got a lot of progress. Ive started putting it up lately just bc it still brushes my shoulders even in its shrunken state now so I think that could make my ends more dry/brittle and increase breakage. I dont like wearing my hair pulled back bc my head is big....lol. So lately Ill wear it out if Im going somewhere for a little while and put it back up as soon as I get done or Ill do a half up/half down do, or a loose pinup.
yes. it wasnt until i joined here, actually, that i started to wear my hair up most of the time. but i still saw growth regardless. i just thought i would see even more by wearing protective styles
I wear my hair out for at least the first 4 weeks after a relaxer (except now that it is really rubbing on clothes, so I got a HairZing, which is fabulous).
After that, I usually get cornrows for a few weeks and then do Bantu knot twistouts until the next relaxer (I have gone about 11 weeks the last two times this year). It is sort of a protective style (since it's not totally up and ends tucked under) in that it doesn't require heat, but it helps.
I only wear buns and pony tail when I have to rush out in the morning. The other 75% of the time I wear it down.
But I would love to find some awesome updos for my hair texture.
Im thinking more and more that wearing my hair out is best for me. Ive been wearing mostly buns/updo's the past month and it seems when I take my hair down I always have little knots of shed hair I get in my hands, etc. I think manipulating my ends twisting them up,etc is hurting more than helping.
My hair was doing great when I just let it be free (not to mention it looks a million times better--I feel so homely with it up). I was worried about my ends rubbing my clothes since its fall now and my hair brushes my shoulders even shrunken or curled up. Im just going to do curly rollersets and clip it up in claw clips, etc. and oil my ends often. Ive seen some cute loose pinups I like where it looks like its a curly rollerset just randomly pinned up with bobby pins with curls at the crown/top of the head.
I know buns work for a lot of people but they dont seem to work for me. I havent worn them this whole year until recently and Im happy with my progress.
The goal is to preserve our ends, but it is possible to do while wearing the hair out as well as long as u keep the heat to a minimum and moisturize/seal often.
thanks ladies, I was wondering because I am just know starting to learn how to really care for my hair and I want to reach bsl, but I am tired of wearing these buns everyday!!! I just needed to know if it is possible to grow hair while wearing it down. ALL OF YOU HAVE SUCH PRETTY HAIR TOO!!!
