Okay, since i trust you ladies to be forthright and honest with me I'm gonna pose this question to you. As you all may (or may not) know, I've been trying to grow my layers out since 2000. So far, so good but not good enuf. /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif Now, after my feathering crappy cut in June of this year, I'm a little antsy about cutting it again BUT looking at my hair once completely straightened, I realize that I need to have it trimmed or something b/c my hair looks silly from the back. I did have another picture in my camera but I must have deleted it. The right side of my hair is noticably shorter then the left and the "V" that I cherish so much is off center and I know i owe that to the /images/graemlins/censored.gif that cut it. So honestly, tell me, if this was how your hair looked, what would you do? Would you cut it one length (yes im back on that again LOL)? Would you even out the "V" which would basically b a cut b/c the left side would have to equal the right? Or would you just leave it alone and hope for the best?

If I cut it all even, I'd probably lose a good 4" but it's just hair and it'll grow back. (I'm talking so much ishh right about now /images/graemlins/rofl.gif )

Oh my Gawd, you hair is AWESOME AS USUAL, I'm in love. I WOULDN'T CUT IT, i'd wait until i reach my ultimate goal then I'd even it out a little at a time.

If I had hair like you my life would be complete (just kidding). But it would be very close, hehe. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anyway, /images/graemlins/orders.gif Don't Cut It!!!!!! I repeat, /images/graemlins/orders.gif Don't Cut It!!!!!!

I would shape the V into a U. That way you'd only be taking off like 2 inches max on one side to get it even with the rest. Visually I don't think that would look significantly shorter than it is now.

i wouldnt cut it right now im kinda goining through the v right now i think im on the bun challenge right now.

Your hair looks great! I actually wouldn't do anything right now. I think maybe you should reassess your hair in 3-4 months, give it a chance to see if the right side will somewhat catch-up with the left.

I personally wouldnt mind having my hair look like that in the back! /images/graemlins/smile.gif I think your hair looks great...you should leave it alone! /images/graemlins/grin.gif But if you think cutting it will solve your hair layers problem, I would wait until the shortest part of your hair reaches brastrap and then cut it even or v-shaped! It's all about patience! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

i wouldn't cut it at all! personally, i prefer the layers! you'll notice as it grows even longer that the layers give it shape and bounce. i don't mind the V, the U, the Y... lol! my ultimate goal is to grow a healthy head of hair. until i reach my goal, i refuse to do any drastic corrections. i probably won't do any after either. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

your sig says you started at 19". so to correct the "problems" you'd basically be cutting it to 1" shorter than when you started 1½ years ago. lemme think about this... "umm... NO!" lol! /images/graemlins/look.gif

your hair is just beautiful! i know so many women who would give their left boob to have it! i really think you should embrace it as is. there is NOTHING wrong with your hair that i can see! you know your hair better than anyone, but i am so sure that if you cut it, you'll regret it as the hair is hitting the floor. please don't!!! /images/graemlins/nono.gif

p.s. that's a gorgeous color, by the way!!

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

Adrienne said...give up a left boob....

So the trade off to have hair like Caramel...one would have to take the chance to be lopsided...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

I wouldn't do anything! Your hair looks awesome just like that! I think the shape gives it lots of flair. If you feel like you have to do something, I would cut the v.

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

Ummmm...it looks like the way it looks after it's down from a wrap or a bun. You're sure it was as straight as can be.

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

Don't cut it...I think Adrienne hit the nail on the head--as soon as your hair hits the floor, you'll regret it. It's really pretty like that, and I think if you cut it once you reach your final goal like Den said, you won't feel like you stopped yourself from progressing.

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

caramel i think if someone posted the same dilemma and their hair looked like yours, you wouldnt advise them to cut it /images/graemlins/naughty.gif let it grow out some more pretty please? layers look better as they get longer. wait about six months and then decide

Re: Hair dilemma...need advice

/images/graemlins/orders.gif Leave it alone! It looks great the way it is, so just wait it out /images/graemlins/smile.gif

But...if you must, the most you should do is cut it into a U-shape (no more than 1 or 2 inches off the tail).

Nope...leave it alone and just wait til you get to your goal and then trim it slowwwwllly away. I have a deeeeep V that I hate but I won't cut it. I'll just trim as it grows out.

First of all it's beautiful and I love the color. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would leave it alone for awhile. It's funny, but hair has a way of "evening up" sometimes. I'm not saying that it will completely even up on its own, but I do think it will even up a little over time and then you can TRIM it instead of CUTTING it.

Also, your hair seems to have a lot of body to it and it won't be laying so neatly against your back for all to see the uneven-ness.

I agree with what everyone has said. PLUS imagine the dilemma of having to find a stylist that will LISTEN and do EXACTLY what you say!! Think worst case scenario and image how you would feel if a stylist hacked off to much!! Or just plain ole cut it the way they wanted to. I do not think it is worth the risk!!

Sorry to be so pessimistic but you know how we feel about SHS!!!

Hey CH.... /images/graemlins/wave.gif /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I would have to go with not cutting it... if you notice in my pics, my hair never grows even.... NEVER... /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gifmajor frustrating......but i have learned to just deal with it and just the trim ends because i am going for length as well as health.....who cares if it is a little uneven????? it's healthy and it's YOURS....ok....that was just my opinion....LOL

This is gonna hurt me more than it is gonna hurt you...

/images/graemlins/spank.gif Thats for even thinking about cutting it.

Sorry but I had to do it

Now leave your hair alone Don't touch the scissors /images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I agree a U-shape would solve the problem without losing alot of length.
