On my way home from work tonight, I saw a girl whose hair was lightly crimped. Not the whole thing, but just pieces here and there. I thought it looked really cute on her! She was probably in her late teens/early twenties.

Do any of you ladies crimp? Would you crimp your hair? Does anyone have a crimping iron?

I think it looks nice in moderation. Here are some pics:

Most of the pics that result from my image search are of white girls. Aside from Chanel Iman, the only Black girl that keeps popping up is Tyra.. She's ruining it for me :nono:, but I'll post her anyway:

hahaaha this used to be the ish! I think its cute. do they still seel those irons that does this?

If I wanted my hair to look like that, I'd make a bunch of tiny braids in wet hair and then take them out when it's dry.

I don't like the look, it reminds me too much of bad 80's videos.

I remember this back in the day and if I recall correctly only those with type 1 or 2 hair got away with out breakage!!!! Braids outs are better for those with more naturally fragile, dryer types. But you know....knock yourself out!

ooh real nice, I especially like the first 2. i would wear Tyra's for a very special and elaborate occasion only, like a wedding or something. that sort of hair style would work well in a traditional nigerian wedding.

I think its only nice in the first two. Crimping looks best to be if its pulled back. Fergie and Tyra look like they are reliving their teens in the 90s.

My hair was crimped for prom in 2004 and I thought I looked cute but I was only 17 so I think I just got away with it! Plus the crimps weren't small ones like the ones in the pics posted.

I saw a girl with her crimps yesterday, but she had the big ones. It took me back to the 90s. That was my sis signature style. LOL.

I think it looks tacky on silkier European textures but very nice on afro hair as it kinda lends a natural earthy touch....

aww! I used to crimp the heck outta my hair in middle school!! I haven't seen any crimps lately tho...

I like it for a dramatic look for a photoshoot.

I don't like it for real life.

PS - i'm mad at tyras face in that pic!!!

It's cute but I guess I just don't understand why put all the extra heat on your hair when you can just do a braid out and get the same look w/o the damage? :ohwell::look:

i like it on the runway, when they make it look fresh, subtle and modern.

in real life, not so much :look:

OT: This is a really bad picture, she looks like one of those things from the gremlins :perplexed

I'm really not a fan of the small crimps, but I really like big hair crimps like this:

I used to do this style back in high school when I had relaxed hair, except my hair was more defined, had more big crimps, and the ends looked better than this pic. :)

If they are subtle like Fergie's, then maybe they'd look cute. Tyra's are too exaggerated and look tacky. There is a fine line with crimping, but generally, I don't like them.

I like the first two the most. They looks sheek. I normally put my braidouts in a bun after a few days. I'm gonna have to snag that look. :yep:

the crimper has to be large not small imho---large so it can produce waves--the small crimps look..hmmmmmmm...

I loved crimped hair back in the day and wanted my mom to crimp my hair but she wouldn't.
I'm not a fan anymore. I'd rather do a braid out.....it's more natural looking and no chance of heat damage.

I tried to do some crimps similar to this but it didn't work out right. Still looked nice.

I do not like the crimps pictured.

I think the small crimps look very natural on sista's because is a highly textured look that goes with us. I'd rock this:

I would only ever do this with a braid out because why apply unnecessary heat?

This was my hair when I took my pixie braids out:

If it didn't need a wash & detangle I would've rocked it like that for a few days for sure:yep:.

Yeah, her ends looked dingy. Back when I did big crimps, I would use hair spray on my hair for shine and hold. ;)
