is the consensus here that ammonia is harmful to the hair? I ask because I've noticed that most on the forum who mention coloring their hair use Bigen. I use permanent color and have noticed the difference in how my scalp feels after I've used the ammonia free color. still, the fact that my hair hasn't retained alot of length despite the obvious growth (due to the need to re color my roots)could be the result of some thing else.

I'd like to hear your opinions.

I have finally concluded that I either have to wear a sew in weave or braids in order to achieve length. my hair hass been able to retain lenght at the nape (or "kitchen" area

Sounds like you hair is breaking as fast as it is growing. When was the last time you did a protein. How often do you deep condition??
