HAIR BOREDOM: After Establishing the Regimen...Then What?

Since joining LHCF I have:

*Completed my transition from relaxed to natural
*Established a hair product and style regimen that keeps my hair healthy and happy

But now I am BORED with my hair :ohwell: Its no longer interesting and exciting. I also dont feel like my staple styles are cute anymore :( If I keep doing what I am doing, I have no doubt I will reach my goal length BUT I might choke on the BOREDOM first. I have 11 months to wait on my hair to grow and have no idea how to pass the time.

Has anybody ever gone through this? What did you do? I am in need of suggestions.

If you find something that works for you, stay the course. I believe in keeping things sample. I try not to change to everything that works for other people.

I agree, keep doing what you've been doing if it works for you and find another obsession like, shopping, reading books or magazines, trying new recipes or trying new restaurants. Trust me I'm already in the hair boredom phase and now I'm on to exercising.

Okay so I thought it was me. I am so dang on bored with my hair. I don't even think I want long hair anymore since I am so bored with it. I think I would be cool at a blunt MBL. It's just that I am so bored. But I agree with JanieB. I am now focusing on this whole exercisse kick that I rarely even think about my hair. My regimen is so easy that I don't have to think about it anymore.

I'm bored too. All last year I did rollersets and wore buns. I think I'm going to start experimenting with styles that focus on my hair being texturized instead of the straight look all the time.

I also say keep doing what your doing since its working. Then just think about what you can do with you hair when you finally get to your goal length. It may be boring now, but its worth it in the end.

I would say look to make up, jewelry, clothes, skin care, or ANYTHING other than your hair for kicks.

I'm bored too I was in the beauty supply store today and I realized I actually had nothing to buy and my regimen is solid so I guess I'm kinda happy:perplexed
Im going to join you all in the fitness obsess..I mean kick

Yes, I was using the same hair care products for ten years that gave me fabulous results. Then I discovered the hair care forum boards. I start using other products because everyone was getting good results. I was slowly turning into a "product junkie," and I was really excited to find products that were just as effective but cost a lot less.

My hair stylist was very patient with me--telling me which ones work best for my hair and which ones don't. The ones that don't made him work harder, but the results were still good. So he finally told me to stick to the ones he recommends. Therefore, I will not buy anything else different.

As far as those that don't work as well, I will use those to experiment on doing my own hair every now and then. In that way, I will slowly but surely learn how to wash, condition and press my own hair without tearing it out . . . so I'm looking forward to this--since most members on this board do their own hair.

Me too. Sometimes I think I look older and just plain (like a plain Jane or something) with long hair. Maybe I should get some bangs or cut some layers or something to kill the monotany.:ohwell:

ITA!! :yep: :yep: When my waves of boredom come, this is what i do.

you also might want to try a protective style like braids or something
you can also wear a wig or get a weave to change up the color and style of your hair without actually tampering with your progress.

i havnt gotten bored yet since i just started styling my own hair but i do have an army of wigs waiting for me when the time comes. :D

Thanks for the responses ladies :)

I am glad to see that its not just me. I think you all are right about going and doing something else might mess up my progress. Case and point, to switch it up I went and got cornrows with extensions this weekend and I am wondering if I am going to regret it :ohwell: They arent super tight but I can feel the tension. I am keeping them oiled and hoping for the best :perplexed I actually had the stylist rebraid them when they felt too tight so I am hoping that Ill be good.

I think that I am more style bored than curious about new products. I am actually really happy with my products and have no desire to venture away. My bank account appreciates that. I think that am going to make a list of some hair "safe" styles that I want to try. Trying new styles may help with the boredom. I just feel so bored with the same twists, twist outs, and afro phony pony. I am going to find new ways to jazz up those styles.

Also thanks for the suggestion to focus on other things. I think that I am going to focus on skincare. My skin can definitely use a little TLC. I am definitely neglectful in this area....I guess I can work on creating a regimen for a clear face and soft smooth body skin. That should keep me occupied while my hair grows down my back ;)

LHCF is gonna make me a diva...LOL  I have never payed this much attention to personal grooming.

I must say, I did experience hair boredom and was impatient a few months ago, now I'm no longer obsessed about my hair, I have my regimen down pack, my hair is getting thicker and healthier and I noticed I don't have to wash it every week for it to look good, I do it now in the winter sometimes every week and a half. Just be patient.

Sit down with a cup of tea. Wait. Watch TV. Water the flowers. Clean the house. Look in the mirror to see if hair is growing :D
Wait some more. A few years to be exact.
That's just me though. I don't mind boring, because I'm always in a hurry. Easy, super quick boring styles...:ohwell:

I am at FULL shoulder length - and I plan to hide my ends until I reach ARMPIT length.

I know what I'm doing is working, but this is so boring. I get the feeling that no one believe me when I say that my hair is on my shoulders - because of my weave!

I still buy new products - but my staples work just fine!

LOL!:lachen::lachen:....I was just talking to husband about how "BORED" i am with this bun!! OMG, It is so not cute anymore and I too don't know "Whatelse to do'!!

Ladies I guess that next step would be to pray for patience. I am glad to know it not just me. :)

Haha...your suggestions made me laugh

I guess you all are right...nothing good comes easy. So I am going to just have to stick it out for now. Even if I am boring myself. Better safe than sorry as they say....

I love listening (reading?) all of your stories, but I cant wait until I am bored with my long hair!!!
Keep it coming!

I am pretty bored myself. All my excitement went into when i was going to BC and now that I accomplished that, I dont know what to do with myself. My hair is in a full weave in the meantime and there isnt much I can do.

I still get on LHCF religiously, but nothing really applies to me anymore..but it has givene me to wonder over to the entertainment and off topic boards

I'm a little bored myself right now too... I'm wearing my french roll. I did buy a pretty little decorative hair pin that is about 8" long. So I have that in my hair and it looks nice.

I'm considering washing it only once a week for the winter, but every three days has been working for me. So, I don't know right now.

But we just need to hang in there. Remember...

  • "Patience is a virtue."
  • "Good things come to those who wait."
Umm. Can't think of any more sayings right now. :look:

I'm glad I am not the only one. I just have the complex that if I am not obsessing over my hair then it isn't growing. I want to buy stuff but I don't need anything. I got enough oil and conditioner to last a lifetime and I have enough vitamins to put vitamin shoppe to shame. Right now I have to keep reminding myself that my journey from shoulder length to apl and to brastrap length isn't going to happen overnight. I am just trying to focus on keeping it clean, moist and strong. If I do that then I know that I will get to my goals eventually. So until I will be with an octopus clip on my head working on getting my body and the rest of my life in order.
