wha is the best hair book?
i have a handle on how to take care of my hair but i dont think i could ever get enough knowledge on it. so i was thinking of purchasing a good hair read.
I'm still in search for the ultimate hair book about natural hair, but I've enjoyed reading Hair Rules by Anthony Dickey and Textured tresses by Diane da Costa. I also have Lisa Akbari's book and Andre talks hair by Andre Walker but haven't read them properly. I have to say that I didn't have a lightbulb moment with any of the books, most of the things they write about I've already read on numerous hair blogs/sites.
I have loads of books, but the best all rounder is Chicoros book Grow it, how to grow afro textured hair to great lenghts in the shortest time. Lets talk hair by pamela ferrell and Good hair by lonnice britternum bonner are great natural resources.
This is kinda old school but "Ultra Black Hair Growth" by Cathy Howse. It reinforces some of the basics already touched upon in this forum. I have the book and always go back and re-read it. It's a good reminder of keeping it simple, protein-moisture balance, the truth about trimming, etc.
THe book that started it all for me, was by SHAMBOOSIE : "Beautiful Black Hair: Real Solutions to Real Problems"
After reading this book, I went on a warpath to find out more about how to take care of what God gave me. Then....I found LHCF....and the rest is history!!!
I only read Cathy Howse's before joining the forum and that gave me a good foundation to be able to make head or tail of the forum and I've never felt a need to read another book. However, I recently saw a book called "Hair Story" that isn't so much a hair care manual but rather a history of our hair. I just started reading it and I'm really enjoying it.
I have been getting a lot of questions about my hair I started out trying to explain what I'm doing, then writing it on paper now I'm working on a hair care guide which will be published in late April early May 2009.
I really liked Chicoro's Grow It. But I also really, really liked Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair by Lori L. Tharps and Ayana D. Byrd. It talks about the history of black hair and how the whole relaxer-thing started.
