Okay, so i am a tropical girl.....love warm weather. However, I am going to Ontario, Canada in a couple weeks. Is there anything special I should know about caring for my hair when I go? It was 6 degrees a few days ago. I don't know nuthin' 'bout no cold weather...

...and try not to expose your hair to the elements if you can help it. The intense cold weather plays havoc with my ends and even more so if the wind is blowing. Try wearing a silk scarf (protects hair from hat material) under a hat for protection against the coldness.

i always over-oil my hair if im going back home and it's cold. and I NEVER weaar my hair down if it's supercold and snowing. If it's a special occasion, i might wear my hair down when i'm inside...but as i'm headed to the door, its up in a ponytail and throw on a snowcap. that cold air can freeze your strands and make it brittle and dry...

I am from Detroit, which is a hop skip and a jump from Ontario. I know what you mean about the cold. My advice is to keep your hair WELL moisturized and keep it covered when you are outdoors. Tie it with a silk/satin scarf. You can put your hat, etc. over it (this is too keep harsh materials like wool from grabbing and breaking your hair.) When indoors, DO NOT handle your hair while it is still cold. It is very easy for it to break off when it is cold, so let it warm up to room temperature before you go at it. Try not to comb it too much in general :yep: Also, you may want to carry a small container of moisturizer or oil in your purse. Not only does your hair and skin get dry in the cold, but the artificial heat (indoors and in cars) make it worse. The heat will tend to dry your hair out, so you may want to rub a little moisture on your hair a couple of times while you are out, especially the ends. Also, make sure you keep your hair up and off of harsh materials (sweaters, scarves, wool coats, etc.) at all times. Also, one of the WORST things you can do is have you hair loose when it is cold and windy. Your hair whipping around in that cold wind is a recipe for disaster. You will get some tangles out of thie world, and because your hair will be dryer, and cold on top of that, it will be very prone to breakage. Keep it restrained and covered when outdoors.

Hope this helps;)

By the way, use a thicker lotion and take moisturizing baths while there too. You don't want to get Winter Itch (when your skin gets dry, tight, and itchy from the cold).

Wow! This is very helpful. Besides scaring me, it's helpful to know to let my hair warm up before touching it. Makes sense. I'll just moisturize and bun it. I'll keep a jar of mango butter in my purse too. ;)

 I apologize, I didn't mean to scare you. Its not as bad as it sounds, you just have to make sure you care for your hair while you're there. :yep: You'll be fine.

GIRL PROTECT YOUR GORGEOUS HAIR AND PUT IT UP!!!!!!!! All the best moisturizing it no match for cold harsh air. I bun my hair 90% of the times!

I'm a Boston Gal, so the best tips I can give is to avoid styling your hair at all before going out of doors if you can. I usually just leave my nighttime satin wrap on my head and pull a hat over it. I style my hair in a phony pony when I get to where I need to be.

A warm hat is truly essential, but keep a silky barrier between it and your hair. Keep your hair very moisturized, but don’t leave the house with damp hair because it may get...uh...crispy. Then it melts.... :look:

Thank you ladies for posting this...I'm going to Chicago on Sunday for the holidays and have been wonedering how to protect my hair from the wind...These tips are great!
