Hair & Age

Ok, does anyone feel that your hair has or is changing as you get older? or what about your growth rate does age really make a difference? ( "we all know that how we handle our hair plays a major part")any input would be great! TIA! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I have only noticed that my hair is a little thinner than it used to be in my teens (I'm 33 now). Other than that - no difference in growth rate or anything else. Oh, of course my hair is greying now, grrrrr /images/graemlins/angry2.gif and the grey hairs are slightly different, a little more coarse and a little straighter.

My hair is pretty much the same as it was when I was younger as far as thickness and texture. And it has grown the most in these last couple years from taking better care of it. So age doesn't seem to be a factor in my case.

At 32 I see a couple grey stands. No thinning at all, could be because I cut out the heat. I take better care of my hair now than I ever have.

My hair strands seem to be getting thinner, but no grays yet. I am thinking a change in my diet would help a little with the thin strands. The growth rate and texture are still the same.

Same here too, and I just pluck those bad boys right on out!!! I'll be 31 in February.

It's funny, my hair is much thicker and longer than it was when I was a little girl. I started to go grey at the side of my temples when I was 26 (which was 17 years ago). I think, because I am taking better care of my hair, and my eating habits have changed and so has my hair. Once you look after yourself and hair instead, your hair may go white or not, as for thickness, that depends, my mother was prone to be thin in the top of her scalp, but she always parted her hair in the middle, plus I think it was how her hair grew, after she started putting castor oil, there it soon thickened up and when she died at the age of 72, she had thick white near bra length hair. My grandmother who died at 98 with thick black hair, my great aunt also had thick black hair. Also I have noticed that the hair on my temple are growing out white, so I can see myself with white hair, but as long as it is thick and waist length, I don't care.

I read somewhere, recently that there are usually no major changes in hair (growth, texture) until you reach menopause. So maybe, that's when we'll see a noticable difference.

my hair has definitely changed over the years. my hair has always grown fast but it seems a lot curlier now than when i was younger. i would say that i'm a 3c now whereas i was probably a 4a before. i'm noticing the same changes in my daughters hair.

My hair isn't as thick as it was when I was younger but I think that had to do with relaxing it for such a long time rather than age. I also think my curl pattern is looser.

i was grey when i was lil but thats over. i was sick for a while and my hair was like straw but now it is more like i remembered.
my grandmas hair on the other hand got straighter as she got older and when she was dead /images/graemlins/look.gif it looked permed except some curlies on the edges

I'll be 27 in December. My hair is thinner than it used to be and my edges are even thinner though not toooo bad. My mother and my grandmother's hair became extremely thin and they even had areas that were comepletely bald. I'm hoping mine doesn't get that bad. I'm going to see a dermatologist as soon as I get some health insurance.

I think my texture pattern is pretty much the same, except for the fact that my hair doesnt feel as coarse and tight as it did when i was younger. The texture actually feels a lot softer and looser especially on the right side and back.

Nope no real change, just a few grey strands. Everything else just got better, of course because Im taking much better care of it now.

Re: Hair & Age

My hair is in better condition now than ever. The biggest change is white, not gray, hair growing in more than ever.

Re: Hair & Age

I had long thick natural hair until I was 20. I got my first relaxer at 22. I have been relaxing my own hair for the past 21 years. My hair has become drier, possibly I'm premenopausal(46) /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif It is also growing in straighter, and my color is also changing from a light brown to black/grey. It is also becoming healthier since joining this board.

I did too read something like this somewhere! I'm 31 and nothing has changed yet I don't have a grey strand that I've noticed yet. my DH does though and we're the same age and he hates the fact that he has grey hairs and I don't. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
