Have any of you completely changed the way you cared for you hair since joining the Long Hair Care Forum? With this I mean buying new products that your hair really deserves and not the other crap that you didn't think twice about, trying new techniques, applying new regimines, etc. In that respect, aren't you so glad that you came to the board and learned so, so, so much for the other ladies? This is a great big Thank You!!!

OMG!! Girl, I dont know what I would have done without this forum. :nono: The only concept of hair care I had was frequent trims. I did not beleive that heat was bad for my head. I had no idea about moisture and thought salons were trying to rip me off by giving deep treatments. I always used to skip them.

As a matter of fact, I remember going two weeks once intentionally not washing my hair, withouy putting any product in it and using the curling iron on it every day. I thought the longer I waited to wash my hair the better. I am not going to lie, My hair was all over the floor and I thought it was the norm.

I have stopped direct heat all together. I moisturize daily. I have deep treatments every weeek and I dont think there has been a day that has gone by since I joined that I have not been cognizant of my hair and my treatment of it.

Because of you guys, I am finally starting to see some progress. My hair is the healthiest it has been since "they* cut all my hair off when I was six" :yay:

THANK YOU LHCF

*You know how everyone always has that "My hair was down my back when I was younger story"

This forum allowed me to learn SO much about hair and COMPLETELY change the way I take care of it. I know so much more about my hair and what it needs, I can even pinpoint whats going wrong with my hair at any given time. I dont know what I would have done about this forum!

I've learned almost everything I know about my hair from this forum! I first visited a couple of years ago after my hair started to break off at an alarming rate. I woke up one morning and found broken hairs all over my pillowcase. I wasn't working at home at the time, but once I got home from work that day I started searching online. I found the Crown & Glory technique and then I found this forum.

The only myth about AA hair I didn't already believe was that it couldn't grow long. A few years ago I'd had a stretch of time where I couldn't spend much time on my hair and it grew like crazy. I'd wash it, put it up in a bun or a ponytail, and go. And it was past my shoulders! It was when I started caring for it that I started having trouble.

I didn't believe that you should comb your hair while it's wet - read somewhere that it's more elastic and it will stretch and become weak. I didn't believe heat was as destructive as it is - with the right products I thought it would be nothing but good for my hair. I didn't like to use oil on my hair - I thought that would weigh it down and keep it from breathing. That one, I don't know where I got that from.

Until recently I haven't had as much time to spend here as I'd like, but I knew enough to retain enough to get my hair to shoulder lenth. Now I can focus a little more (and hopefully get to know you ladies a lot better) and I'm aim ing formy next goal : underarm length hair with some body. My hair has never been that long in my life and I'm so excited.

I should add that what I didn't learn here I picked up from my kickass stylist. I still go to her for touch-ups, trims, and sometmes styling. Because I'm still kind of idiot savant when it comes to styling. But I'm getting better.

I have learned so many good things here. I have found so many good products and good styling techniques. It has made my hair completely turn around. My hair is now longer and thicker than ever. I am currently ~3" from armpit length.

The nicest thing is being about to correct any hair problems from the info I've learned here.

I have learned not to be dependent upon a stylist. I was previously brain washed by my stylist. I also learned to extend my relaxers beyond 6 weeks. I never knew about ceramic flat irons and curling irons prior to this forum. I feel that this forum is great and the knowledge base is very extensive.

I have changed my "hair behavior" a lot!! I can't even begin to tell all of the horrible things I have done to my hair. Its a wonder that I had any hair at all!! I do not sleep without a bonnet. I moisturize almost daily. I only use heat twice monthly. My hair has responded by growing to shoulder length and I am determined to rech mid shoulder blade by the end of '07.

I've learned so much here and look forward to learning (and growing) much more!

Hahah!! YEP!! YEP!! :yep: Don't I know it! I have a girlfriend of mine who is STILL complaining about how some stylist "cut" her hair when she was "younger" so that's the reason why her hair won't grow past her neck now. Whatever!!

If you don't mind me asking you guys...what are you all using to "moisturize" your hair daily with?? Because I think I have the oils part down. But I don't think I do enough moisturizing of my hair. And I certainly don't do it everyday. My hair is shedding like crazy, and I think it's because I'm not moisturizing enough. So, are there any GOOD moisturizers anyone could recommend please? Thanks! :)

I can not begin to express how much I have learned from this site....

My hair was growing when I found LHCF but my hair has FLOURISHED but more importantly I believe my perception on how to take care of my hair has changed...it is more managable because I have learned the ways to manage it best... I always thought if I find a great Hairdresser then my hair will grow....NOW I know, if I treat my hair with gentle, patient strokes and gentle, nourishing products then my hair will grow...going to a great hairdresser is extra....if I know what works with my hair then my hair will be everything that I want....

Thank LHCF :)

well I now know that it is not difficult to care for natural hair...and that moisture is key. I never has a problem growing my hair long....just growing it past my normal length was the culprit. Now I have little breakage so hopefully my hair will flourish :)

I never would have looked at the natural/organic products and discovered the joys of Giovanni Direct leave-in and Jason products if it hadn't been for this site.
I had totally stopped taking my centrum multi, and never would have started in on the specific vitamins and such without reading so much about them here. I didn't know a thing about biotin.
My transition was really smooth thanks to all the helpful info I found here. I'm infinitely grateful to the LHCF!

Oh, my . . . what haven't I changed! I used to press my hair every 2 weeks and grease (yes, "grease") my scalp every other night, I used to brush my hair--to death, and I used to snap, crackle, and pop my way through tangles (I never realized there were products made for this.)

I don't know where I would be without this site--and Cathy Howse's book which started me down the hair care path in the first place. I now wash more frequently, wear natural styles the majority of the time, and only press 3 or 4 times a year. I use oils instead of grease (except when I press; I still haven't found a nongreasy pressing oil), together with leave-in conditioner to keep my hair moisturized.

My hair is the evidence that these changes were better for my hair.

Wow! What can I say? My hair has come a long way since joining this forum. When I came onto the forum my hair was just cut into a bob at neck length and now it's almost at armpit length. It has never been healthier. I've learned about processes / products that have helped the overall health of my hair:
- condition washes
- stretching my relaxers to 12 weeks
- Salerm 21, Aubrey GPB, Coconut Oil

This forum has been a blessing!

has your hair grown since you stopped pressing it?

I have learned CW's and different treatments to put in my hair that I was not doing before. The value of certain vitamin's, keeping my hair moisturized and not combing tangles out from the root. I will be brastrap !!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see, I learned how to do my own human hair braids, moisture is the key, and the effective use of vitamins...

Since joining the forum I've started washing my hair all by myself. A year ago if you told me that i'd be washing my own hair at home i would have looked alot like this: :lachen: . I also don't get my hair trimmed every 8 weeks. Now it's more like every 10 or 12 weeks. Also i used to use the curling iron when my hair really wasn't all that clean. None of my hair came out or anything though. Still can't figure out why.

This forum helped reinforce the idea that i can have healthy hair. Before the forum, i knew about conditioner washes, vitamins, and moisture. Seeing all the beautiful heads of hair encouraged me to keep my hair healthy. I also realized the importance of letting split ends go by trimming. And about the wonderful benefits of extra virgin olive oil.

I've learned a great many things here, like discipline. I've learned not to rush the process of growth. It will grow at its own rate. And most of all keep my hair moisturized.

I found this site by accident almost 4 weeks ago. Let me tell you, LHCF has changed my life completely. Not only am I a product Junkie, I have transformed into a sexy mama! I have more confidence with the way I have been looking. I went and bought new products for the hair and a new wardrobe to match. I have always taken care of my kids before myself. I would wear the same clothes and wouldn't spend any money on me. Now I am learning to do both. LHCF has inspired me to take care of me too. I am so happy and excited to have joined. I read posts for 3 weeks before I joined. I just want to tell all the ladies that are reading the post and haven't joined yet, It's worth the $5.00 dollars!

LHCF has helped me get on the right track with caring for my hair. I believed in flat-ironing every day, and not moisture. My hair has improved tremendously, not only my hair but me as well. I got my hubby all rawled up now! It's all good. Let me just say Thank you! Thank you! because I blabbbbb too much.

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!

Transitioning

I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, than live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is!- unknown

Since joining, I know how to use my products.... Before I bought the better products(Nexuss, PM, Redkin and etc.) but did not have a clue on using them properly...
I had a regimen, but now I have one that works... I have become a product junkie, but I am working on that..All I can say is THANK YOU "GOD" for letting me find this site and the wonderful ladies who care and share:kisses:

THANK YOU
:beach: :notworthy
:fan: :bouncy: :user:

I learned so many things when I found the board: daily (or at least regular) moisturizing, protecting hair from cotton pillow cases, using essential oils, the baggy method, CO washes...the list goes on.

While my hair has not grown as much as I'd have liked, it looks so much better and I am always getting compliments even from strangers in the street. Here in France, believe me this is *not* a common occurrence.

Most of all, I enjoy viewing pictures of long, beautiful, healthy 4a-b hair. It's great to see us getting over the whole "good" hair nonsense and learning to appreciate those characteristics that make us who we are rather than change them.

Here's to you LHCF.

My hair has done a complete 90 degree turn. My hair is finally growing and I am so happy. I am confident that the best is yet to come!
