Guess I should stop relaxing

I got a relaxer a few weeks ago. The lady applied the relaxer right after I told them to wash it out. I waited maybe 5 minutes for the sink then they washed it out. Well sort of i noticed the lady rinsed all the relaxer out of my hair then applied the shampoo. Well it looks like I lost some of the hair in the front. I am so upset. I have a lot of hair so it may not be noticeable to most but I see the loss. I guess I really need to consider not relaxing anymore. The relaxer was Dark and lovely mild relaxer. Can't get any more caution than that right?

You could either stop relaxing and go natural, or find a better relaxer. I've heard bad things about dark and lovely.

I hope you recover from the hairloss.

NEVER USE DARK AND LOVELY AGAIN!! I can't believe they are still in business...

You can have healthy relaxed hair. Stretch them out and take extra care of your hair.

I vote for you to come to the nappyside. :D You have such a nice face, I can just see you with that nappy halo!

But yeh, compare relaxer ingredients and see what in it has caused you to have the hairloss. Maybe even go to a dermatologist and make sure you didn't have an allergic reaction.

Girl it seemws like EVERYONE hates dark n lovely. I never tried it and based upon the reviews never will.

I suggest you don't give up relaxing yet. Find a better relaxer.

I just relaxed with Dark and Lovely two weeks ago and it underprocessed my hair like crazy (only relaxed about 25-30%, same texture but just a little softer like when I use the coconut/lime mix) It made my hair hard when I took out the relaxer and it started to shed and break like crazy. I used Motions CPR this weekend and it stopped the shedding and breakage immediately. I advise u never to use dark and lovely again...EVER!!!

ETA: Here is a thread I started on the worst relaxers to use, Dark and Lovely is def at the top of the list.

It's strange that everyone hates this cuz I've used D&L on my head multiple times with NO adverse effects. No hair loss, breakage, nada (and that's even when I used to use the Super strength). :perplexed

I'd stop for a while. If your hair is falling out, putting a relaxer on top of it is just gonna make it worse. At least it did for me. :ohwell:

Thanks for all your replies didn't realize that relaxer was so bad. I think I will stretch for a while. I may possibly stop relaxing all together.

Well...it took one bad relaxer experience for me not to go back, lol. My hair didn't break off, but that was a miracle based on how my last stylist applied it.

It's been a relief not to have that feeling of fear at touch up time...that "what if something goes wrong THIS time"...it's almost like Russian Roulette.

If anything, just take a break if give your hair time to recover.

In my family we have this inside joke....

Dark and Lovely will leave you Black and bald. :(

If someone comes near you with one.... RUN. A certified stylist shouldn't use box perms unless you ask specifically for that (aka bringing your own.) As far as your hair.... give it alot of pampering and rest. I'd say find a stylist that is all about growing some hair (they DO exist), ask questions, and take it from there. That's how I found mine. I had a bad relaxer with a hella-bad stylist that left my hair in such bad condition I had to go from APL to a chin length bob. The women on this board are very knowledgeable about hair issues. It's a great place to start. I hope things go well for you.
