What kind of protein should I use after relaxing? Should it be a mild one? Is it okay to use it the day after the relaxer?

Thanks . . .

From reading sistaslick's articles, she said that the week before your relaxer you should use a heavy protein, and the day of the relaxer use a mild. I have been doing this and I don't get breakage like I used to after a perm.

what would happen if you did a heavy protein treatment right after a relaxer?

I don't think it would be a good idea. You could use something like Apogee 2 minute Intensive Reconstructor or Ion Keratin Reconstructor. Something like these would be a good idea. I use either one after rinsing, just before neutralizing. Great results.

Nothing but good results --- at least for me. My stylist always gave me a Dudley's DRC 28 right after shampooing and my hair was noticably strengthened when she went to blow dry it.

I do my own relaxers now and still continue the DRC immediately after neutralizing and regular shampooing, and I know several people that do... well actually all the women that get it at her shop now.

The best thing is to stick with what you're comfortable with first and venture out.. if you dare. (lol)

For some people nothing happens, but for others it BURNS!!! Your pores are still open and sometimes the heavy protein is just too much. My cousin did this and said he hair felt like it was on fire. Just to be on the safe side, I would just do it via Sistaslick's advice and do a heavy one a week before (so that your hair has enough strenth to withstand the relaxing process) and do a mild one after (so you can rebuild hair bonds that have been broken fromn the relaxer). Hope that helps! :)

i did my own relaxer and then after 3 days i did a protien treatment with 1 egg and few drops of jojoba and kemi oil. my hair feels very strong , and no breakage.

I relaxed last night and used the Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor before neutralizing. Great results...hardly a broken hair to be found!

what about joico in the tube. i think its a reconstructor. would that be a mild protein, or is it even a protein conditioner? i dont know but i have some and since i started texlaxing, last week, i need to know this info too:grin:

I am wondering the same thing!

I use mild protein conditioners because I don't feel my hair needs any heavy duty protein. My all time favorite is Aubrey Organics GPB, and I also like Aveda DR conditioner and treatment.
