Grrr..
Yea you read it right!
My hair is ****** dry again..
I moisturized it two days ago..

I use my little concontion.
Its ...ugh..
half ors carrot oil creme
ors shea butter
few squirts of emergency 911
few pumps of biolage daily leave in conditioner
one spill of africa six oil
and one spill of miracle 8..

and I seal with QP mango butter.

I dont know how to relay the proper measurements. lol

So as my protective style. I have about 5 twists and they are like conrows and I pinned them to the back of my head. B.c My braids dont stay lol. ..

It was itching horribly. :nono:

Does that mean that it is growing?

Also any suggestions ARE HIGHLY WELCOME on what to do about this dry mess!..

I recently started using giovanni con and poo.
Also I just did a Apoghee 2 min recon.

WHY THE HELL IS IT SO DRY?!? wHAT CAN i DO TO MAKE IT MOIST and keep it that way..

The deal is i am supposed to moisturize it every 2-3 days but sheesh... this dry.. no way.

ors carrot oil creme, ors shea butter and emergency 911 all suck on my hair! made my ish dry in 15min or less!

hahah
whats so funny is that when I product shopping
I always eye that care free curl stuff lol

hm, i used that before. shoulda added evoo to it. better yet castor might set that one off

ors shea butter- Has cones in it
few squirts of emergency 911- medium protein, too strong to be using every few days. Should only be used once every week or two at most
few pumps of biolage daily leave in conditioner-Biolage has been known to dry out some peoples hair

and I seal with QP mango butter. - Has cones and mineral oil in it

First, I think there are way too many products in your mix. Try just mixing water, conditioner and maybe an oil. Or use vegetable glycerin and aloe vera gel. That's a popular choice. Try keeping it as simple as possible.

Have you tried any of these products alone, so you know if they work for you or not?

Why don't you miosturize daily? I'm sure that would help tremendously. So would co washing and more frequent deep conditioning. Find a good moisturizer that doesn't have cones, mineral oil, petrolatum or any other crap in it. All that does is MAKE your hair feel good and cause build up.

QP..has MO in it?? No way..

and cones...silicones correct? So I look for that when I product shopping.. b.c my eyes only searched for mo and petrolatum,, or like ammonia .. etc.

wow thats different.

also i thought that emergency 911 reconstructs your hair..

biolage..hmm its makes my hair wavy.. but doesnt dry to nice.. like with a little flakes. I thought it would work if I mixed it in something and it was a hydra- sealant.

well that concotion is about to run out..
so you say try aloe vera gel....
where do i get that from.. is it the stuff that is used on the body..

also the oils and other products i use.. I thought that since it contained vitamins and ingredients, etc. like nettle. it would be great for hair thickness and length.. b.c my hair has grown... :perplexed

and your right about the feel good for the moment or day.. the ors carrot creme jump off.. lol

ITA. It looks like you're doing WAY TOO MUCH!!! Try to work with one moisturizer and an oil...

For a while there I was on the Mizani Rose H20 Intensive Night Treatment. I really liked it, but I am very interested in trying other products so I tend to not keep going back to old products and skip around trying new things here and there. HTH

Emergency 911 might be a reconstructor but reconstructors are protein based- meaning they add protein to your hair. Too much protein can cause breakage. Check out Sistaslick's Hair Breakage Tutorial on Protein and Moisture Balance.

It is often better to err on the side of moisture rahter than protein.

HTH- Happy Growing!

Yep, cones are silicones. You don't have to avoid them, some people's hair LOVES cones (including me) But the trick is to use them in moderation. I never use a shampoo or moisturizer that has cones in it. Only conditioners. And even then, I don't like using anything with more than 3 cones. And cones can't be at the top of the ingredients list.

Cones lubricate and make hair smooth and shiny. But after a while they cause build up and block out moisture. Leaving your hair dry, stiff, dull, etc. There are some water soluble cones that don't do this though. I'm having a brain fart, so I can't think of them right now though  I'll have to come back later and post them

Emergencee is a protein conditioner. Anything that says it 'reconsructs', 'strengthens', 'reduces breakage' etc is a protein. There are different types of protein. For example, keratin is a strong protein, it usually makes your hair hard and you have to dc after using it. Wheat and silk proteins are gentle and moisturizing, and make your hair soft.

If something doesn't work for you, give it away. Don't even risk your progress!

You can get aloe vera gel from a health food store. Make sure it's food grade (water listed as the first ingredient) A popular brand is Lily of the Desert

Cami, use a non-protein or minimal protein leave-in...I don't want to name too many brands..best you find one which works for you.. I change mine up often depending on how my hair reacts post shampoo. Right now using EQYSS Avocado Mist then some BB castor oil, sealed with coconut oil. I've shampooed three times this week changing products as my hair does it's usual pendulum craze. Slow down a little, too many things at once will not help you see what does what; use a little at a time of your products then observe the effects..you'll get the hang of it.

Perhaps your concotion is too drying b/c it has too much protein? From the boards, I learned that Elasta QP Mango Butter has a bit of protein in it and I think Emergency 911 has protein in too. For me at least, Elasta QP Mango Butter is more of a moisturizer and I then seal that with an oil (coconut or Carol Daughter's Lisa's Hair Elixer on the length).

Another thing, with me, I notice when I mix too many products together, then my hair gets itchy. Try using less and see if it helps the situation.

Also, I must moisturize every day for my hair to feel how I like it to feel. Perhaps your hair is the same and wants moisture everyday :)

this hair math is crazy

I think you should slow down on the products for now and use up what you have-- one at a time. Start with the ORS Shea Butter, that's a good moisturizer. Moisturize with that, then seal with an oil. After the ORS is gone, move on to something else.

It's very easy to get caught up in the hype, and wanna try everything and mix everything (believe me, I know!) but it really is best to keep it as simple as possible.

You can mix the aloe vera gel with water and/or glycerin. I wouldn't mix it with anything else.

Since the Biolage dries hard and leaves flakes, don't keep using it, trying to make it work. Give it away! Same with the ORS Carrot Cream. If your hair is dry the day or day after you use it, it's not working for you and it's time to move on

If you're set on still using Emergencee, water it down and spray it on sparingly. Make sure you follow it up with a moisturizer to counteract the effects of the protein. I wouldn't recommend doing this often though, it's easy to go into protein overload. Using too much protein can cause breakage just like too little protein can. So definitely keep an eye on that if you continue to use it often.

Try using Mane N Tail or Infusium leave-ins. Those have proteins in them, but they're not as strong as Emergencee so there isn't a strong risk of protein overload

sounds like a plan ..
I hate infusium... lol

i was susing biosilk for a while.. but never kept it around long enough to see the results.
I just honestly wanted some premium poo and con and at the time that was the only one avail.

My hair works better with products that contain more water in them or H2O as the base because it provides actual moisture. Sometimes i add rose water, or other essential oils and experiment.

For example:

Giovanni Vitapro Fusion Hair Treatment is a spray on treatment that STAYS IN THE HAIR to repair dry, brittle, dull and over processed hair
Ingredients
Water, Extracts of Rosemary OIL, Nettle oil, Thyme oil, Birch Leaf oil, Chamomile oil.Clary, Lavender, Coltsfoot Leaf. Yarrow oil, Mallow, Horsetail oil, Soybean Protein, Vitamin E, Trace Minerals, PVP, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Grapefruit Seed.

You have too much going on!

How often do you wash your hair? I use Giovanni too which one do you have? If you hair is dry the 50/50 Balanced Shampoo may be to harsh since it is a clarifier. Try just using conditioner for a few days and wash with shampoo once a week and see how that goes. You can also wash you hair with baking soda which has been a miracle worker for some one here b/c some shampoos were to harsh on their hair. The Tea -Tree Triple Threat is great too!

Also, the itching, when my scalp itches it is usally b/c I put too much stuff on my scalp. When I wash my scalp often and don't put anything on it, it doesn't itch. I don't even oil it and I used to have some bad dandruff, but no any more.

I would do as someone else suggested, try just one product even just conditioner mixed with water and a light oil.

Beware of castor oil and conditoners with proteins. Those can dry your hair out due to too much protein making your hair brittle and Castor Oil is a humectant which if the air is dry it will take the moisture out of your hair making it dry and brittle.

Hope this helps!

I use Garnier Sleek and Shine Leave In as my conditioner, vegetable glycerine and water with a few drops of peppermint (8) and Tea Tree (8) and seal with Avacado Oil. Simple regimen and I spray the veggie spray twice a day. I also co-wash daily or every other day if I am lazy.

Hope this helps!

I wanted to try this but, I was apprehensive due to the proteins, my hair drinks up misture like nobody's business! How is it working for you?

It works on my hair fine but i cant speak for anyone who has tried it. The soybean protein is vegetable based therefore it strenghthens lightly without drying or breakage.

I think keeping it simple is always the best recipe and keep in mind that water is what provides moisture. Oils and ingredients like Shea butter help seal :yep:

I'm, in the same boat as you and I am trying to eliminate possible causes for my dry hair. This is what I've learned so far since I've been on the board.

  1. you might have buildup from your products use a clarifying shampoo
  2. use a chelating shampoo if you use a no lye relaxer the calcium buildup from the no lye can causes dryness
  3. look at your diet, not drinking enough water and not having omega fatty acids can make the hair dry and brittle
  4. and like tiffers said too many silicones
  5. oh and you might have hard water in your area, in that case use a chelating shampoo to remove the build up from the hard water
