OK guys...this is a continuation of last nite's thread about my braid removal:eek: ! I am over 6 months post, and I will be getting a relaxer next week. My true hair texture has been revealed and what a nightmare!!

N-E Way, After removing the braids, I put in about half a bottle of Suave Conditioner and about 1/2 cup of warm EVOO. I put on a plastic cap and went to bed. This morning, I washed with Dumb Blonde followed by an ACV rinse and OMG!! My hair was tied in a knot! It looked like my dog's hair after I give him a bath. I was completely horrified! I thought for sure that I would have to cut out the matted sections, but I regrouped, slapped a LOT of NTM on it and detangled as carefully as I could. You should have seen the clump of matted, knotted hair on the floor an hour and a half later!:wallbash:

I must admit, my hair was a lot smoother on the second rinse before I applied Candy C's advocado yum yum conditioner and sat under the dryer (that's where I am now), but I feel like I am going backwards.

I am not sure how much I did damage my hair. I won't know until I get a relaxer. I am sure I am going to have to do a chop and start over. What did I do wrong?

Incidentally, no more braids for a while for this gal.:ban: I can't take the mental anguish!:cry2:

Hey girl. I didn't read your previous thread, but I feel your pain. Once, my aunt was helping me take down my free-style braids, but didn't realize that part of my own hair was left loose beneath the braid. She chopped off a good 1.5 inches of my hair! I was so mad :(

Before you rush to chop off your hair, why not give a few days to recuperate and see how your hair is after that?

Did u get extensions? I was told that relaxed hair and braid extensions will wreek havok on the hair because yr relaxed hair is more fragile than yr natural. Congrats w the 6 month post and sorry you didn't have a good braid experience. Keep us posted.:)

Sorry it happened to you. :( It probably wasn't the braids that did it. It was probably the takedown method. I had a similar thing happen to me. Did you detangle before wetting w/ product? Basically, you have to detangle after removing each braid. I learned that one the hard way. Now, use Robin's method for takedown and detangling and I've never had another "incident." :)

Sorry for what happened to you! I would not chop my head just yet! Sareca's right! It could be the takedown! When I remove my braids, which I wear at least 360 days of the year, I use CON Braid and weave Ease-out spray, which not only helps take the braids out, but also detangles and keeps the hair soft and moisturized. Also, be careful about braids and relaxers, the hair is pretty fragil when relaxed and can get pretty tangled! But all in all, don't despair, there's always hope!

I think the ACV rinse took away the slip. You need the extra conditioning in your hair when taking out braids. ACV rinse will strip everything away. Next time clarify a week later after your hair recooperates.

Thanks for the help guys. It turns out that I did a few things wrong

1) I added extensions to semi relaxed hair
2) I did not detangle after each braid. I just removed and slathered on
tons of Suave conditioner (I thought that would detangle)
3) I probably added the ACV too early and stripped away the conditioner
I added.

I managed to get my hair into a very questionable bun. I think I will Phyto next week if I can work up the nerve.

You guys are so supportive. Much smooches to everyone!!
