Only if the temp is below 25 degrees outside. I have found that my regular oils and leave in condish do not keep my scalp properly lubricated under those circumstances.:nono:. So I will use Dudley's (the blue kind w/eucalyptus) or Lustrasilk (with tea tree oil). It doesn't work for everyone but, it works for me.;) My hair has always been on the dry side and doesn't like artificial heat or wool sweaters etc constantly.

Ok...I'm kind of confused after reading this thread. Is it the general consensus that greasing/oiling the scalp is bad? Is there a difference? I know I used to grease my hair and scalp every other day, and I've never had a dandruff problem even if I didn't grease my scalp. Sometimes when I didn't I would notice my hair was dry and dull looking. I was always told hair grease was bad. I no longer use products with mineral oil or petrolatum just natural oils; JBCO, EVOO, EVCO, and jojoba. Should I apply this directly to my scalp or just my hair?

Thanks

LOL! That's what happens to me sometimes when reading all the different ideas, suggestions, and opinions on some topics. It really boils down to one thing - and ONE thing only for me:
DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU & YOUR HAIR!!

I oil my clean scalp directly 2x's per week on wash days, with JamaicanBlackCastorOil straight (nothing mixed in) and it is working wonders for both hair and scalp. Although I enjoy reading what the other ladies have to contribute, I can only go by what my hair tells me she likes...

i just started lightly greasing my scalp with sulfur 8 grease,,, and its woking wonders for my thinning areas.... i dont use alot and use the grease once-twice a week.

when it's warm out i use EVCO on my scalp.
when it's cold out, i use a mix of EVOO, almond oil, and EVCO on my scalp.
so far so good. i have been off the grease for a year and a half and not looking back. i also don't have the itchy scalp some of you have mentioned but i think it's b/c i switched to sulfate/MEA/DEA/TEA/paraben/cone/mineral oil/petroleum free products at the same time.

No I cant use grease at all if I dont want my hair to stick to my head like a helmut . My hair is fine if I need to seal occasionally I will use a bit of light oil like coconut or jojoba my scalp produces a fair amount of oil on its own over a week though so I dont add much extra. I did have pretty bad dandruff and itchy scalp in the past but I found that after swithing to sulfate free poo and keeping my scalp clean by washing at least once a week I dont have those problems anymore at all.

For those who don't grease your scalp. Do your scalp get dry and flaky without anything on it?

No. My scalp doesn't get dry and flaky because I use organic coconut oil. I take a squirt bottle and massage in with my fingertips 2x per week.

I use Hairobics Hair and Scalp Booster. It's very light and melts into your scalp. You can hardly tell you have anything on your scalp. I notice that my hair sheds more if I don't put something on my scalp.

Love it! Would'nt do without it! My scalp is extremly dry so I have to. As a matter of fact I just washed it and used Cantu shea lv-in. Tried to go without it but my scalp feels so tight and dry if I don't! Not ashamed of confessing to this. Like OP said it works for some and does not for others......But if definitely works for me.

i used to years ago, and occasionally do grease my dd scalp, but now i just oil my scalp lightly. my scalp hasn't had any problems with flakes or dryness since i've stopped greasing it.
