Gotta ask- what is so special about Dominican products?

After reading on the bottles that the main ingredients are mineral oil and petrolatum plus some other ingredients you can't pronounce, I am wondering why the hype over them? Seriously. They seem like any other cheaper commercially available product out there, just they have spanish terms on them. Can someone explain the awe concerning them?

I use them, and understand why u would ask that with the ingredients being similar. But to me they are not as "watered down" as the other stuff.

For Instance, either Lacio Lacio changed there formula or I bought a bootlegg version. I took it back to the store because it felt different and I notice the labels looked a little different. The label with the U.S.A was more watery and the label with the S.A (south America) was thicker. They exchange me for their last S.A version and assured me they were going to ask their supplier about it. They were even confused. No one makes things in the US anymore, we are known for outsourcing. I think it was bootlegg though

I don't know what the "awe" is persay. I like them because they detangle well, 9x out of 10 for me. When I try most products that I can find on the shelves in grocery stores, they don't aid in detangling at all. This is even true for expensive products like Nexxus (expensive for me!). Even Keracare for some reason, it just doesn't agree with my hair. Most Dominican products that I've tried are really good at that, and my hair has thrived since I started relying on them.

My hair loves them. I use Lacio Lacio as a leave in and for roller sets. I use Miss Key 10 en 1 for co-washes and deep conditioning. I tried Capilo Cinammon & Sole shampoo and did not like it. Plus when I go to the salon and let them do it, they use other Dominican products and my hair comes out soft and shiny and bouncy. Never as nice or straight or cheap as our salons that I've been to.

Really. I've tried Silicon Mix and 10en1, neither of them did ANYTHING for my head. I still have both jars and will be giving them away at the Houston meet-up. Thats what I get for being a PJ :wallbash:

I like them and they are really cheap. And there is such a big selection to choose from but you can become a PJ trying to find out which ones work best for you. If I can get the same results from using Dominican products verses expensive ones, then why wouldnt I use them.

My hair loves them as well, and my dryness issues are a thing of the past. The mineral oil thing.... now I don't like vaseline(capilo products) on my hair, but keracare humecto, and other salon quality american products contain mineral oil in similar proportions sometimes. It depends on the individual conditioner's ingredients. There are some that don't contain mineral oil/petroleum products as well. The ingredients are not that complicated to me(maybe because I majored in chemistry), but still there are many sites that will give you information on these ingredients and their use. In the end dominican products are hit or miss, like anything else. Either they work for you, or they don't. I am glad they did for me, because after using Keracare products exclusively for two years, after a while they just stopped giving me the same results. I do know that when I was natural, I avoided mineral oil like the plague, so I wonder would I still have had the same results.

I guess they are cheap in the BBS b/c online they were not to me.

I bought those two also. Tried both twice and I don't see anything special about them. Maybe I should try some different ones. :nono:I think I'm going to stick with alma oil.

I think some online places are higher than others....to me, Sickbay is the cheapest and has fast shipping. They are cheaper in the BSS cause I bought the LaBamba and Noni conditioner while we were in NY and I paid 3.99 each for them I think.

aww D..I hoped you would have like the Silicon Mix...Miss Keys is just so-so for me too.

I love my dominican conditioners
When I first tried them some of them were just ok but since I've learned about reading the ingredients and rotating the moisture and protein conditioners as needed my hair and my daughter's hair has thrived. :yep:

:yep:This was my experience also. The first dominican conditioners I bought were Capilo aloe vera/sole and cinnamon and tropical aloe vera. I was not impressed. But I studied the ingredient listings and made better choices. Now It seems I can't go wrong with the ones I try now. My hair is thriving also. Who would have thought that I can go for days without my hair being dry.

LOL....SNM stands for "Start No Mess"

:lachen:Oh OK. Not trying to egg you on, but I would like to hear your opinion. I really ain't into all of the "hype", but all I know is the stuff I'm using is working for me and I really don't read that much into it past that. When I started using them, I had dryness problems and I was "pressed" to solve them. I don't think anything you would say should SNM because I think its as simple as either you like them or you don't.

What others do you think I should try? You said something about a leave in.

I use Lacio Lacio as a leave in for rollersetting....I am still in shock about the Silicon Mix not working for you:lachen: I honestly think you have a good regimen going and you should just stick with it...just like when you asked me about henna.

But you know how that is, always looking for something better.:drunk:

well the dominican conditioners I use do not contain mineral oil. I use this Gala Wheat Germ or Aloe Vera conditioner from time to time.

I also love my Salerm 21 leave in - no mineral oil there. Those are the only two dominican products that i do use.

ETA - Gala seems to have mineral oil....well my hair love it nonetheless lol

The Sole & Cinnamon and Silicon Mix are my favorite dominican product and works well for my hair, even better than some of my expensive salon brand and I have many.
I also noticed the Praital Silk Work Rinse is a hit or miss for most members.
I think what works for one does not work for all, just like any product dominican or not.

For me I can get shiny, silky, flowing, moisturized and strengthened hair. Oh and let's not talk about the slip! I've been using these conditioner for 2 yrs. + and I can airdry with nothing adding and my hair will be shiny as all get out, and folks ask me if my hair is wet.

What I do find strange is that my hair doesn't mind the mineral oil or petroleum that is in these products.
