Good moisturizer for type 4a/4b?

Greetings All,

I am new to the board. I have been browsing the site for about 2 weeks and very impressed and inspired by everyones stories. I am transitioning since February. I used to get my hair pressed every 2 weeks, but since reading the board I decided that this was too much heat. I started CO washing with Suave Milk and Honey, a couple of days ago and noticed that my new growth appears dry. Can someone recommend a good moisturizer and tips on how to maintain my thick mane?

Hi Angel54 and welcome to the forum!

For extra moisture, I'd recommend Elasta QP Mango Butter and ORS Olive Oil Lotion. They're both water-based and keep you hair moisturized quite well! The key is to apply it on damp hair to help seal the moisture in. You only need to use just a small amount for effective results - you don't want to weigh your hair down.

I also like elasta qp recovery for moisture if you are relaxed. The mango butter might be a little heavy.

i noticed that when i take flax seed oil, my new growth is much softer and i can hold off on perms longer too. i would also suggest that you use Carol's Daughter Health Hair Butter.

I pulled out an oldie but goody a couple of days ago...Keracare Creme Conditioning Hairdress. I also like Mizani Rose H20.

I don't know if your local BS carries it - but try Dynasty's Protein Reconstructor and Conditioner. It does amazing things to my hair that tends to suck up everything and dry out daily.

I recently tried doing an oil moisturizer treatment. I spritzed my scalp with a combination of amla and brahmi oil, massaged it in then lightly spritzed my scalp and hair with distilled water then lightly massaged the oil mixture all over. braided and tied it up. come morning my hair was soft, shiny and smooth, new growth and all, down to the ends and I just left it in braids. I decided to try this after reading about it on someone's post-I forgot who but they know who they are! Thank you!

I like the mango butter myself. Since my hair is thick and very dry, it doesn't matter how much I put on my hair. There aren't a lot of products that could weight my hair down.

Organic's Africas Best Herbal Tea Tree Gro. The absolute best moisturizer/ conditioner on the market. No petroleum, no mineral oil, the bomb. Ultra light and deep penetrating.

I use a mixture of coconut oil & water w/ a little olive oil. It works really well and makes my hair shine w/ no greasy feeling.
