Glucosamine Sulphate as Substitute for MSM?

Hello All,
I was in Holland & Barrett's today (that's the UK's most well known vitamin shop).

I saw they had a supplement called Glucosamine Sulphate in the same section as MSM (the joints section). The label said it is important for building connective tissue and cartilage, which is what I've also read about MSM. And from the name, it seems to be a sulphur-containing product as well. It was on sale, so I thought of buying it.

Does anyone know if it has a similar effect on hair as MSM? Does it have any benefits for hair?

All you scientists, share your knowledge.

Thanks

I bought some Glucosamine Sulphate capsules when I first went hunting for MSM. I would open the capsules and pour it into water or juice but the stuff would just sit there, wouldn't mix or anything so I just went ahead and bought some good MSM powder and have been using that ever since.

Yes, Glucosamine can be used as an replacement for msm. It still provides elemental suphur which can aid in hair thickness and growth. It also works well with silica. If you do decide to take it start with 500mg taken with a little vitamin C. You can increase it to up to 500mg 2-3x a day. Glucosamine can affect your insliun resistence so if you are diabetic or have blood sugar issues, check with you doctor first.

Thanks ladies.

Gymfreak. Is it as effective as MSM?

I have never taken it enough to tell. I got some powdered msm but I am not consistent with it enough either. Remember that the effectivness of vitamins also depends on body chemistry. My sister can take 2 biotin pills and get an extra inch of new growth while I have to manipulate my dose back and forth to see any results. If msm makes your stomach act funny (thats why I haven't taken mine in awhile) or you get other side affects, try the glucosamine. You could always take a little msm and some glucosamine. Its seems that they work well together too.

I too have started to take liquid Glucosamine Sulphate, the taste is less to be desired but I belive along with my Biotin and vit C, the combonation should add to my hair growth and "joints could also use some oiling ;) "

I'm new to lhcf, and am not sure about the vitamins that are good for the hair. I am currently taking GNC Womens Ultra Mega. What is MSM, I don't think it is in the vit I take.

Just an FYI ... Minute Maid sells orange juice with Glucosamine in it. I bought some yesterday but haven't tried it yet.
