I bought Nature's Bounty Biotin 5000mcg about 4 days ago. I felt tingling already. It had to be the biotin because I wash my hair frequently, so it was not itching or anything.

It'll be a while before I can use mine I think- I'll have to ask my OB on my next appointment. My baby is not due until April but I still can't wait to try it out!

Biotin is great for thickness, growth of hair and nails. But beware too much will cause major pizza face.:perplexed I had to drop my dosage to 2000mg a day.

Thanks for the heads up!

I have been taking 5,000mcg Biotin for the last 7 months.

The good: It works. My regular hair growth is 1/4 inch per month, biotin bumps it up to 1/2 inch.

The not-so bad: If you don't drink much water with biotin, your urine turns a scary bright yellow. It's your body expelling the portion of the biotin you're not using.

The bad: I broke out the first week of taking it. After my body got used to it no more break outs. When I ran out, it took two weeks to get a new supply and when I re-started the breakouts began again for the first week.

The ugly: Facial hair will grow quicker than usual. I used to be able to get my eyebrows and various other places waxed once a month. Now I have to wax once a week, maybe stretch to 10 days.

Yep. :yep: Exactly what she said. It definitely makes your pee pee glow. but if thicker strands that come in faster is what you're after, biotin does it quicker than anything else I've seen or tried.

I guess i'll be making those hair removal companies even richer.

I took biotin (purchased @ walmart spring valley brand) for about 2-3 months. The first month was fine and it really made my hair grow/thicken. I didn't have any trouble with breakouts either.
I ran out and didn't take any for about 2 weeks and as soon as I started the new bottle my face broke out really bad. I wouldn't say like a pizza or anything because the bumps were on both sides of my face. Then I noticed I really hadn't been drinking alot of water with the new bottle and alot of members experienced the same problem. Thought increasing my water would help but it didn't. I finally just stopped taking them because the breakouts wouldn't stop and because I started to lose weight.

i love me some puritan pride biotin i take 6000mcg it grows my hair so fast. biotin is the best hair growing pill. like a must in a regimen. i cant live without it and it brings fast results too when you consistent but you have to start it with low doses and then up your water intake as you increase it else you will experience breakouts. and after a couple of days on it you will start to get itchies like something is crawling on your scalp i was so scared in my shower the first time it happened:lachen: all you need to grow long hair faster at a minimun a good multivit, biotin, msm and some epo/flaxseed oil then you can always add b complex and silica but biotin will grow your hair out.:)

ok, now i'm a bit nervous. i just bought some biotin and silica yesterday and now i'm concerned about breakouts. any rec's on the minimum amount i should take?

Does anyone take GNC Biotin and does it work for you?

I used to take them, but it wasn't long enough to notice a dramatic change in my hair. I did notice my eyebrows getting thicker faster.

having trouble finding an epo/flaxseed oil...do you mind telling me the brand you take?

msbrown-

oh ok, cause when I was a lurker for this site, I didn't pay attention to the brands people were using. So I just went out and bought GNC. I did notice that I have to pluck my eyebrows every three days.

I tried Puritan Pride biotin and did not see any major result switched to Freeda Biotin and had great results.
I was also not drinking a lot of water when taking Puritan brand.

I added a bunch of cheap GNC biotin to some watery moisturizer a while back and it stopped my hair from shedding, breaking instantly. There was a thread about this a while back, that's where I got the idea.

Thanks

Now you've got me thinking  :brainy:

Can someone bump the post about adding biotin to hair products?

Here is the link to a post about MTG. Someone posted about mixing boitin in with there MTG. I am guess you could do that same with conditioner. Its post #13

Here is also one for making MSM conditioner. You could probably switch the MSM for the Biotin:

I Have been taking Puritans pride too:grin: Mad growth and (good)itchies...

This powerful vitamin will jump-start your hair growth

Biotin is an essential supplement for anyone interested in preventing hair loss and increasing hair growth...
Biotin is a major component in the natural hair manufacturing process -- it is essential to not only grow new hair, but it also plays a major role in the overall health of skin and nails.

Biotin is a vitamin B and it is present in foods like eggs and liver. However, it would take a huge amount of eggs and liver to provide you with the 5mg. of biotin that you would need for healthy hair and nails. A biotin supplement can provide your body with the necessary amount of biotin it needs to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss without additional calories and without having to eat liver.
Biotin is a member of the B-vitamin family. It assists in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and protein. It serves as a critical component of several enzymes and is involved in energy metabolism. The major benefit of biotin however, is its ability to strengthening hair and nails.
Men and Women who are experiencing hair loss may be able to keep their hair longer and promote hair growth by taking a biotin supplement or hair vitamins containing biotin.
Shampoos and Conditioners containing Biotin are also helpful for hair loss in two ways:
1. The biotin in this products may promote hair growth when absorbed by the scalp.
2. The biotin in shampoos and conditioners is able to penetrate the hair shaft making it expand which actually thickens the hair cuticle. This gives the hair a fuller appearance.
Biotin is so important to hair health, that many dermatologists prescribe biotin supplements to their patients as part of their medical treatment for hair loss. So patients taking Propecia, Proscar or even using Minoxidil are also taking a biotin supplement.
Biotin
  • It is the best known supplement for the health and beauty of Hair, Skin and Nails.
  • Also referred to as Vitamin H, this vitamin promotes hair growth, protects against dryness and is involved in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fats.
  • Increases the elasticity of the hair's cortex preventing breakage.
  • It also thickenss the actual hair cuticle providing a fuller appearance because of the increased diameter of the hair shaft.
  • A lack of Biotin would result in dermatitis and hair loss.
Biotin and Niacin have been proven to promote hair growth in addition to hair health.
Niacin
  • Works best when combined with biotin. Increases blood flow to the follicle which is important to "hair growth".
  • Niacin is also known to reduce cholesterol which is important since cholesterol collected in the scalp can release the enzyme 5-alpha reductase which gets converted into DHT.
  • It has a dilating effect on vessels and capillaries thereby increasing circulation to the scalp and stimulating hair growth.

Biotin increased my growth from 1/2" a month to 3/4" a month BUT my face took a beating, after I stopped taking it my face cleared up.

Yeah, I take GNC's Biotin (2500 mcg), and GNC Hair Skin and Nails (which also contains 2500 mcg of biotin). So, in total I probably take anywhere from 2500-5000mcg's of Biotin a day. I have been slacking off lately in my vitamin challenge, so some days I miss my pills altogether.

But I can definitely attest to the GNC Hair skin and nails vitamins and the GNC biotin vitamins. OMG...my nails have now grown longer than they EVER have in my life! I used to have a really bad habit of biting my nails. Even when I would try to grow them out, they were so weak and brittle, that they would just chip, or break by doing simple things. Now that I take my vitamins, even if I'm doing something that would usually cause me to break a nail, I look down and see that my nails are still in tact! I'm so happy!

My hair has thrived too. I won't say that I've seen "Drastic" results (I haven't been all THAT consistent!), but my hair feels thicker, and my hair is now longer than it ever has been.

Definitely recommend Biotin and Hair Skin and Nails by GNC. Even if they don't do anything "drastic" to your hair, I don't see how those pills can hurt. I'm sure they do nothing but enhance your hair and nails. Plus, with the Hair skin and nails product, my skin looks pretty good these days!

Just drink plenty of water (probably what we should be doing anyway), and you'll be just fine. ;)

Well ladies I went to my OB/GYN today and I asked her if it was ok to take my Biotin Supps and she gave me the green light! She told me I was already getting a dose in my prenatals anyway and it was fine to take the supps. And wouldn't you know it, my husband called me while I was at the Dr's office and told me my pills had arrived UPS! So I have added these pills to my regiman and will be documenting my growth in my fotki. I am too exited cuz I thought I was gonna have to wait until after my baby was born and after I finished breastfeeding to begin the biotin regiman.
