THANK YOU! I'd be SO free!

Although, I have to admit, it IS nice getting pampered and having someone ELSE do my hair for a change. Washing MY hair for a change. But...oh well... :-/

You know something?? I just noticed that a lot of white women usually ONLY go to the salons when they want a cut, a color, a perm, or some kind of fancy-schmancy do. Hmmm....

I wish I could say that I was pampered at the salon. Most of the time it's sit and wait 15 min (or more) for them to get started washing my hair... (and don't even think about showing up late unless you want to be dogged out). If it's busy then my hair gets "washed" -really scratched by some h.s. apprentice with long fake nails instead of the stylist. Sit under the dryer for another 45 min, get the conditioner scratched out again. Sit and wait another 20 mins then they "style."

As for the "style":
Lots of times I have brought pictures from magazines. When I was younger the pictures were ridiculous with pictures of long haired girls - and I was told that my hair was too short and I got whatever style. As I got older, I made sure that the style was a picture of a woman with shorter hair than mine, with side, back and front angles. And I still got whatever style... So now I've stopped bringing pictures in and I just tell them to part it to the side and curl it under.

There are some stylists that can give you best of both worlds. I believe you get what you pay for.

Man I wish this were true! In the Philly/South Jersey area you can pay top dollar and still come out with a messed up style and maybe chemical burns too. Tricologists have messed up my hair. In my family we emphasize the TRICK in tricologist. I would have mad respect for any styist who does research on hair and hair products. Sadly this hasn't been my experience at any salon I've gone to.

I understand that they stand on their feet ALL day and deal with people trying to tell them how to do their jobs... That sucks. But they are providing a service! There is no need to smack me around and belittle me while doing my hair.

Awww man, socialWorker, you had my dying... Your encounters are so funny. (sad, but funny) I'm sorry these things have happened to you. I know how it feels, especially since i am very emotionally sensitive and I can't handle people talking to me in a belittling or disrespectful way... But oh well...that which doesn't kill you only make you stronger... ;-)
