Ok guys, I am currently 21 weeks post and attempting to transition. I am using BKT and that certainly helped with the management of my new growth. I have an appointment tomorrow to get a sew in with hair left out around the edges (so that I can pony it up since I work out a lot). Please give me any advice...especially those that used sew ins as their transitioning method!

Hook me up ladies...I'm terrified! I've never had weave (I do have a wonderful wig, but never weave). I have heard success and horror stories, so please no negative comments...just good solid advice!

You can check out my hair on my fotki. It is just at shoulder length right now.

make sure the braids aren't too tight. if you're getting a net weave you might want to invest in some squirt bottles for washes and any oils you might want to use. just make sure you dont forget to take care of your hair underneath.

My only advice is don't leave the weave in to long because you don't want your hair to dread underneath. Also when you finally remove the weave, detangle very thoroughly before washing so you don't lose all your progress.Good luck, I wish you the best.

I assume since you say you desire to wear you hair in a ponytail you are gong to leave heair out approx 1/2 inch around the entire permitter of your hair so you don't show tracks when you wear your hair in a ponytail. The key to the type of weave method you are using is "proper blending" and good hair maintance. You want to be sure to have clean washed hair prior to applying your weave. Wash/condition every two weeks. I hope you bought a texture weave like kinky yaki or something to blend with the texture of your hair. I would recommend soaking the weave in cold water to get rid of any chemicals and color in the weave prior to your install. It helps with the itching of your scalp when you weave is in. Good luck. If you would like weaving hair styles...check out my fotki.

also the quality of the hair will determine how long you can keep the sew in and how it will act after you wash and condition

Ok I checked out the link...thanks Kacie! Great info. My stylist told me to get a brand called Outre premium. Have you guys heard of that?
