Well, I am getting a relaxer in approx. 2 weeks..I am so afrad that my hair is going to fall out! I am going back to no lye because I dont think my scalp can handle lye, but i heard using no lye after having a lye will cause breakage. I'm wondering how concerned I should be...last time a chemical touched my hair it was Revlon Realistic lye, but it didnt take...so should I still be worried about breakage???

I think you should be very concerned about breakage. Someone yesterday that posted on here said that they went from no lye to lye and back to no lye and had severe breakage. Have you tried using a mild relaxer or a different brand of relaxer. A lot of people seem to like Affirm and others.

Do u base ur scalp, if not I would consider not goin back, just because I do think Lye is better, LOL, even though I have only had it a week, LOL, but yeh if u must make sure the person does a good job, do some protein treatments, deep conditioners, etc.

I agree. Just make sure you based your scalp really, really well and don't switch (or at least I wouldn't unless I absolutely had to).

Good Luck Honey!

I switched back and forth a few times without much of a problem - so don't worry too much.

Jus tmake sure you base, put something on the relaxed ends to protect them a little, and make sure she (or you?) only does the newgrowth. This is very important. Sometimes people think they have to relax their whole head because they are changing from no-lye to lye. You don't have to do that. Do only the newgrowth and be extra careful about overlapping.

Tene, I'm going to maybe try a different one, but I cant use Mild...my hair is a mixture of fine and normal, but as a 4a, I dont know if I mild would sufficiently straighten..I dont want a texturizer...the reason I thought about switching back to no lye.. is because my hair and scalp have been extrenely dry ever since experimenting with lye at the end of may
