Freestyle beauty sells Joico. Its in the same shopping center as the Ballys.

I had a quick ends trim done by Mimi over at Hair Cuttery. Nice Lady.

I like Aphogee 2 minute as well. It works great and I use it weekly to biweekly. Best stuff I've found so far to keep breakage at bay. Glad you found something to stop yours!

A big thank you!! I have been there and I liked that the beauty supply store had all my staples (mango butter, ORS relaxer, Keracare, etc.)

I was considering the Hair Cuttery for a wash and set. I may call Mimi.

OP, how's your hair still doing? Would you say the breaking still subsided? Reason I ask is because I've noticed that sometimes something will work at the moment, and then go back into doing the same thing. TIA.

My hair is still doing great. Last night I applied my BB Castor Oil (w/the mineral oil) sealed with oil, and wrapped. I've been watching whether I need to switch moisturizers because in the mornings my comb tends to snag my hair. This morning = no snags! And I don't comb my hair during the day but I will once I get in the car to leave work. After a full day of twisting and turning when I got in the car to comb my hair = no snags!!! That works for me!!!

There is a Marshall's and Ross on Little River Tpke, in the same shopping center as Shopper's grocery store. That's 395 exit 3 (or Duke St once it crosses 395). But the one where I actually bought my stuff is in Kingstowne. I bought my stuff at TJ Maxx but there is also a Ross there.
I know exactly where you are talking about.

Is this the shopping center mentioned above on Little River? If so, I know exactly where you are talking about. Hair Cuttery is exactly where I was thinking of getting my ends trimmed at some point.

i just realised that keratin is also the second ingredient in Megatek, maybe thats why its working for me :look:

Yeah i've come to the realization that I NEED to do some kind of reconstructor or protein treatment before and after i get my hair straightened or there's instant breakage.

so saturday i planned on dcing with the joico k pak reconstructor for the first time. i planned on leaving it in like 30 minutes. some last minute emergency caused me to leave it on for like 8 hours. so yall know i thought i had destroyed my hair. i was already planning what types of moisturizing dc's i was going to need. omg i rinsed my hair. i wasn't hard at all but it felt super strong.

prior to this 90% of my conditioners were moisturizing. yeah i think im going to stock up on some more protein condish and bump them up to either weekly or biweekly.
I had the misconception that natural hair didn't need protein. My fine natural hair loves Keratin protein...loves loves loves!! I'm glad I figured that out sooner rather than later, because the good effects are cumulative over time and help a great deal with length retention.

see i thought the same exact thing recently until a) i read that article from "the curl whisperer" stating that thin/fine curly hair actually needs protein and b) i kept noticing the breakage when I have it straightened even when I keep up my moisture and use heat protectants. i was wondering why my hair didn't seem to grow at all and it's almost may.

I didn't wet my hair with it. I didn't even wear a shower cap or anything like that. Just my usual bonnet. I just ran it through my hair and on my ends like I apply my moisturizer and IT WORKED!!!

Hmmm, this is interesting and sounds like it just might work with my long relaxer stretch right about now. My hair is cornrowed now, but I'm subscribing so I can try this when I undo them:yep:.

Same here...I kept reading that natural hair did not need all that much protein, which puzzled me because my natural hair loves, loves, loves protein. It especially loves Mill Creek keratin conditioner and Cabellina del Caballos conditioner, which has keratin also contains a good amount of keratin. I never get protein overload nor hard hair. Once I left it in overnight by accident (the other times after that I left it in on purpose) and it loosened my texture in exactly the same way my yogurt treatments do -- considerably.

Protein is so tricky for me. I have to avoid Milk Proteins..my hair does not like it. JOICO the same thing; especially at the demarcation line. Wheat proteins are better for my hair.

Transitioning can be tricky! I found several products I tried during my transitioning did not work, only to revisit them on my natural hair and have a completely different experience. Keratin was one of the main culprits my relaxed hair could not take any type of protein except wheat.

Every month since my BC, I would do a 2 mintue Apoghee treatment and I did not have any breakage issues. Now I have not done it for at least 2 months and I see and feel the difference.

Chile my lace front hair is swangin after I used Joico this weekend on it, that stuff is a pure miracle! The Millcreek is for my personal hair only, I don't share...

I have a big ole jug of the Joico reconstructor conditioner, I could do 500 heads with that thing!

ETA: A woman stopped me in Sam's club and started grilling me on what I use on my hair! LOL I told her about Joico, I even told her to do a search on the internet for LHCF. I didn't mention the lace however...:giggle:

I also have their leave-in conditioner, their straightening balm, the spit ends mender...the Moisture Recovery, etc. If it has Joico on it, I have it.. pretty much.

Yep, they are one and the same.

I feel your pain. I wrote a similar thread once I discovered my problem. Prayers are answered

Texasqt (and others experiencing similar problems): I think it would be extremely beneficial to go back and read Patricia's Thread: My Discovery.

IMO, until each of us make "OUR" Discovery, we will be at a loss and perplexed about our hair issues.

Personally, reading this for me was a great help in not only becoming a DIY, but understanding why my hair was doing some of the things it was doing. It helped me tremendously. We have to get an understanding of our hair. And she explains that thoroughly, at least what she went through and I could fully identify with that.

I think this particular thread should be a reading "must" for all Newbies and everyone just beginning their HHJ or becoming a DIY. It really is a great thread and she should be commended for writing it. Go back and look for it and spend some time reading it and what some of the other Ladies said and you will be extremely enlightened about your hair.

I have smaller bottle of the K-Pak Deep Reconstructor and a big bottle of the K-Pak Conditoner which is also a reconstructor but lighter. I got both from Ebay and to be honest, I don't remember the price (it was a good price, I hunt for bargins) I get all of my Joico products off ebay.

I just found this on the internet which is a great description of the product and how it should be used.

What IS Joico K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor

K-Pak Deep Reconstructor was recommended to me by my stylist about a year ago. She noticed that I was battling severe breakage, and implored me to begin using a protein treatment once a week. Her personal favorite is K-Pak, so I went with that. She has educated me a bit on the structure of hair, and how different products works. Along with my review of K-Pak, I hope I'll shed some light on how and why this works (when used properly).

K-Pak Reconstructor is a treatment made by Joico. It is NOT a conditioner. I repeat, it is NOT a conditioner! The general purpose of a conditioner is to moisturize, detangle, add slip, and make it easier to style. K-Pak is not meant to do any of those things. If you are looking for a deep conditioner, this is NOT IT! The purpose of K-Pak is to fill in the structural holes of one's hair shaft, using protein. By strengthening the shaft, it reduces breakage and results in healthier hair.
How To Use K-Pak:

The directions on the packaging are very brief: Apply to damp hair. Leave on for 5 minutes. Rinse.

There are a number of things you need to know to get the maximum benefit from this, or any protein reconstructor.

First, K-Pak is a penetrating product - it does not simply add gloss to the cuticle, but actually needs to penetrate the shaft in order to work. Most of us use products containing silicone of some sort or another. Chances are, your conditioner is loaded with them. Silicones coat the outside of the strand, making it difficult for a treatment to penetrate the strand. Because of this, it's best to use a clarifying shampoo to remove the build up prior to applying K-Pak. I like to use a clarifying shampoo weekly anyways, so it's not a big deal for me.

Second, unlike deep conditioners, there's no reason to leave K-Pak in for any extended time period. You won't get different results. Hair can only absorb a certain amount of protein at once, so five or ten minutes is more than enough time.

You can use K-Pak too much. Even the most damaged hair will only benefit from 2 treatments a week. Overuse of a protein treatment can potentially cause hair to feel brittle and dry. I use K-Pak once a week. If you're already using a different protein treatment, like Redken Anti-Snap, you might want to limit your use of K-Pak to once every few weeks.

Finally, I need to banish the most common misconception about reconstructors. K-Pak is not a replacement for a conditioner. If you find your own hair responds well to deep conditioners, keep on using them! Most importantly, it's crucial to follow K-Pak with conditioner! K-Pak won't add softness, or slip, and without following with conditioner you'll find it exceptionally hard to detangle your hair.

Use clarifying shampoo, apply K-Pak, let sit for 5-10 minutes, rinse well, use conditioner.

Down To The Nitty-Gritty... Does It WORK?

Oh yeah, it works. It works great! After a full year of using K-Pak, my hair is much stronger and thicker looking. It doesn't break off like it used to, and I don't get split ends. Just 5 minutes a week has really made a huge improvement to my hair. The results make the price, weird scent, and slight inconvenience 100% worth it to me. I'd highly recommend this if you're hair is damaged. Stick with it, and in a few weeks you're bound to see results!

A Word About Knock-offs:

Sally Beauty Supply sells a knock-off version of this product. I've never tried the Sally's version, but from what I hear, the ingredients are identical and it's a dead ringer. If I didn't already have a huge stash of K-Pak, I'd try it! Just thought I'd let it be known. If the price of K-Pak means it unavailable to you, by all means go get that knock-off!

Honestly, if it wasn't for this Particular Thread and the "Protein is my Friend" (and a so many, many others) I would still be in the dark. I knew absolutely Nothing about My Hair. If I hadn't learned "the discovery" I would still be Depressed and Floundering and still not knowing why hair was doing what it was doing and not getting expected outcome (results).

With all this wonderful knowledge out here on the LCHF, we can take from each other's discoveries and not make the same mistakes. It was truly a blessing.

All of you ladies could write a Book. And I'm sure we would get more out of it than I did from Shamboosie. No offense to him (or his book) but I've learned much, much, more from you all.
