 My hair has been breaking and thinning out for reasons unknown. If I had to guess maybe heat and maybe being overprocessed (trying to relax straight after texlaxing and short transition; using blowdryer more, using flatiron more when I use to just use a curling iron).

After all the talk about the effects of BKT and even how great my hair was after using Ulta's Liquid Keratin, I realize the common denominator is Keratin, right!?! Well last night I applied Aphogee's 2 minute Keratin Reconstructor on my hair as if I was using it to moisturize (not heavy at all) and I left it in overnight. GUESS WHAT!!! My hair is not breaking at all this morning!!! The comb is gliding through without any snags and my hair is soft and it feels stronger! OVERNIGHT!!!

I'm going to wash later returning to my Aphogee products like I used when I first started here! :wallbash: PRAISE GOD!!! I don't think I'll have to cut my hair now. Hopefully it'll have the same effects when I wash. I'll definitely let you all know later today!

U know I'm having the same problem, but my hair isn't thinning though, just shedding like crazy, maybe I need to try what u did......I wanted to do a hardcore protein treatment though......

Keratin is the BEST protein for "conditioning". Try the Joico Line :yep:. I recommend
KPAK Reconstructor
KPAK Intense Hydrator
Moisture Recovery Balm

The bomb ... end of story.... I'm not even sure why we use other proteins on our hair...that's the conclusion I've come too...with the exception of collagen perhaps....

I am sure they are useful but Keratin is IT!

I'd be a bit scared to keep protein in my hair overnight, but if your hair can take it....

Those on a more organic tip can check out MillCreek Keratin shampoo and conditioner, it has pretty decent ingredients, top most being keratin.

I definitely will be giving this a try. I have a coupon from the Vitamin Shoppe that I will be using soon.

I just bought Naked Naturals Keratin Citrus Poo and Condish from CVS yesterday. BKT friendly and only 6.99 each.

oh ans I saw Mill Creek Keratin Poo from 3.99 at Ross last weekend. Hate I didn't pick some up.

I swear to goodness I'm tired of ya'll coming on here and talking about these hair products at Marshalls, Ross, and TJ Maxx. I have been to several and it's not the same here. It's not fair :(!

Keratin is the truth!!! I've used the Aphogee 2-step hardcore protein treatment twice (about a month apart) and my breakage didn't subside like it has today. The hardcore Aphogee has animal protein not keratin.

I'm DCing under the dryer now. Hopefully I'll be able to come back in and report good results!

I didn't wet my hair with it. I didn't even wear a shower cap or anything like that. Just my usual bonnet. I just ran it through my hair and on my ends like I apply my moisturizer and IT WORKED!!!

I've been shedding for a few months now :wallbash: Just going in circles trying to find a remedy. Definitely get a handle on it now because if it continues it will lead to thinning. Also, note that the hardcore Aphogee treatment has animal protein and not keratin. I'm not sure if they are related as far as the source, but Keratin supposedly absorbs into the hair shaft/layers more. I highly recommend finding something with Keratin in it.

Protein is so tricky for me. I have to avoid Milk Proteins..my hair does not like it. JOICO the same thing; especially at the demarcation line. Wheat proteins are better for my hair.

What part of VA sweetie? I am in NoVA and I've been able to find a lot of hair stuff at those stores. Rusk, Giovanni, etc. Are you near Alexandria/Falls Church/Arlington?

I live in Arlington. I have been to the TJMaxx, Ross, and Marshalls on Rt.7 in Falls Church. Maybe I should head to Rt. 1? My parents live in Lorton so I can swing by Rt 1. I'm not too far from Duke street, Landmark, etc Let a girl know!!

I just used this for the first time last week to DC and my hair felt and looked thicker.

I am sitting with some on now. I love that the 2nd ingredient is Keratin, meaning there should be alot of it in there.

Yes I'm quoting myself :lachen:! There is a Vitamin Shoppe on Rt 7 too that does carry this stuff. I'm thinking TJ Maxx, Ross, or Marshalls will be cheaper, right?

I tried Joico kpak recon yesterday and after flatironing I combed and I only had about 2-3 strands in the comb...first time..yay :)

I have the Aphogee 2min,I only used it once when I relaxed in March,I'm gonna' try using this more often, thanks for the info :yep:

I dont know if a BKT will stop your breakage problems. I think it does more to prevent it.

Not BKT. Just a keratin product like Aphogee's Keratin 2 minute reconstructor or some of the other products mentioned in this thread.

So...a little update. I used the Keratin and Green Tea spray and a heat protector by Sedu as my leave-ins. Detangling was a breeze. I dried my hair under my bonnet dryer and decided to go ahead and flat iron. My hair is soft and light and it looks like I've gotten some of my thickness back. I can comb thru without the snap, crackle, and popping sounds I could hear before. The strands of hair that I did loose at this point was due to my bad habit of using a rat-tailed comb :wallbash: but it wasn't nothing like the globs of hair I've lost before. My ends were a mess as I had suspected from the previous breakage so I self-trimmed too  I took pictures and I'll post them tomorrow.

Thanks this is great news, I ran out of Aphogee 2 step but I didn't want to buy it again as I didn't feel it was doing much really, so I'll give this a try

I happy to hear your outcome. I really need to try more keratin based products. The only one so far is the Aphogee's Keratin 2 minute reconstructor. When I use the Aphogee's Keratin 2 minute reconstructor my hair always comes out soft only if I leave it in for 2 minutes. I can tell that I've had damage because the reconstructor actually seemed to work. Before I never saw a difference so I would not use it for real.

Yeah i've come to the realization that I NEED to do some kind of reconstructor or protein treatment before and after i get my hair straightened or there's instant breakage.

so saturday i planned on dcing with the joico k pak reconstructor for the first time. i planned on leaving it in like 30 minutes. some last minute emergency caused me to leave it on for like 8 hours. so yall know i thought i had destroyed my hair. i was already planning what types of moisturizing dc's i was going to need. omg i rinsed my hair. i wasn't hard at all but it felt super strong.

prior to this 90% of my conditioners were moisturizing. yeah i think im going to stock up on some more protein condish and bump them up to either weekly or biweekly.

There is a Marshall's and Ross on Little River Tpke, in the same shopping center as Shopper's grocery store. That's 395 exit 3 (or Duke St once it crosses 395). But the one where I actually bought my stuff is in Kingstowne. I bought my stuff at TJ Maxx but there is also a Ross there.
