If so, do you have any suggestions PLEASE...I've fone thru the Qhemet Burdock, Hairveda Whipped Cream and HE LTR Leave-in and still my hair ends up like a brillo pad just a few hours after applying. I use coconut oil and/or JBCO to seal. I've done ACV rinses; I 've cowashed; I DC 1 to 2 times a week....I don;t know what else to do other than to accept that my hair is just this way. I am 24 weeks post relaxer and this very dillemma is amongst the reasons why I'm ready to throw in the towel and get a mild relaxer. I am soooo frustrated; I want to moisturized soft hair that I hear everyone talk about on the board and I don't know what else to do anymore!!!!:wallbash:

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I'm struggling with the same thing, so I'm BUMPING! I have found lately that using a moisturizing DC once a week has helped a little. What moisturizing DCs have you tried?

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I'm having the same difficulty...it may be contributed to the cold weather. How are you wearing your hair daily?

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

It may be because of winter. what is your moisturizing your technique? Also what style do you wear your hair in between washes? what is your routine after you wash and DC. also what do you dc with?

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Well I had box braids; I now rock my half wigs in the day time and keep my hair in a satin bonnet in the evening and home time. My DC consist of Aubrey Organics White Chamelia, Keracare Humecto or CB Smoothe Triple Silk. THey are amazing and I'm super happy with them. My protein is Hair Mayo or Aphogee 2 min (and I now use them as needed only). I cowash with HE LTR conditioner. My thing is that my hair feels great on wash days at that moment and then 24 hours later I'm back to being Tumbleweed Head Tom with this dry hair dillemma. I live in South Florida...so winter is something that just happended a week ago with a cold front that passed through, lol; I've had this problem for a long time now. I moisturize int he morning before I put on my wigs and at night before bed; I seal with the oils I mentioned above and it feels good for that second and that's it. So I don't enjoy this healthy and full hair because it feels like crap and looks dry too. But it's very healthy and doesn't break and I'm happy about that.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I'm not too familiar with the steaming thing because all I have is a hair dryer (the full one that sits on a table) and I DC with a plastic cap and sit under the dryer and then come off after 15 minutes and wrap my hair in a towel and leave it for another half hour.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I'm having the same issue. I'm not really doing anything differently except I started using Hair One instead of my usual sulfate and paraben free poo. I thought the Hair One would be beneficial in the winter, but maybe I need to go back to the poo? Anyway, I'm having trouble moisturizing so I'll be following this thread.

Thanks OP!

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

cantu shea butter leave-in...it's pretty much unanimous among my mom, brother, sister and i that this stuff is the ultimate at moisturizing....and that is RARE! there is always something that one of us doesn't like or some product that doesn't work for one of us...not so with this product. my brother has scalp issues and was hesitant to try it since a lot of things are great on his hair and leave his scalp flaky or with some sort of buildup, but the day after i had him try this stuff, he stole my jar! he says this is the ONLY thing he has tried that keeps his hair and scalp moist for days on end, and my mom agrees. i pressed my sister's hair without putting this on damp hair, then the next time i put this on her hair before sitting her under the hood dryer....MAJOR difference in frizziness and the condition of her ends. GET IT!!! NOW!!!

oh, also...adding honey to my DCs has helped tremendously with how moisturized my hair seems after it dries. hope that helps!

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I am kinda experiencing the same thing. I think it might be the wigs for the most part...

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Smiley79, I was reading threads last night and bumped into a thread that a member mentioned how she steams her hair without a steamer....there is a youtube tutorial on it but it it really simple.

You will need: 2 washcloths, 2 shower caps and a dryer.

All you need to do is dampen the washcloths and put one on your head then a shower cap; followed by the second washcloth with the last shower cap and then go under the dryer as usual...I am going to do it this weekend (maybe sooner) to DC...give it a try and see how it works for your hair.

Also,
you may want to try cool down period after you DC or rinse out the DC with cold water to close the hair cuticles.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Have you looked into whether the oils you seal with have protein in them? If your hair is protein sensitive or your moisture/protein balance is out of ratio, it may cause the dryness. Just a thought.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

i use a combination of nourishing coconut milk & hawaiian silky miracle worker 14-n-1
and i keep my hair covered
i'm like 25? weeks post and my hair is pretty soft...

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

smiley. When im having problems with moisture retention I look to 2 things first. Protein & porosity. If those 2 are straight...then i look at my products. Sometimes, and for some folks, oil based moisturizers may not give them the full daily moisture they need. Qhemet is a great moisturizer. ..but with a lot of oils & butters. so i find that i have to use this after a good water based moisturizer.also, using products with too heavy of a cone can interfere with daily moisture as well.

I'm going to try this tonight!!!

Wow, that is a lot that I did not consider. Thank you Poochie.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

So I'm guessing you airdry your hair? Do you airdry in braids or anything?
Do you prepoo with oils? do hot oil treatments? hot oil treatments really help me with dryness. what do you shampoo with?

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I have the same issue I am in a below 0 area and my har is a MESS!
I wet my ends and coat them with conditioner and baggy overnight. That has helped me tremendously.
I have noticed that Shea butter which I use in the summer time does nothing for my hair when it's winter.

Ok you busted me! I did forget to add that part. I do not airdry. I blow dry about 50-75% and then air dry. Before you all throw tomatoes at me, :lachen:, I have tried the air dry method and it is NOT for me. I hated the way my hair felt and for some reason my scalp was so itchy. So I blow dry with CHI silk infusion to protect my hair and that's that. My hair grows well, doesn't break or shed much at all and is thicker than ever. I have never done a hot oil treatment...I didn't know if this was necessary since I DC regularly. Please share some info on that....do you recommend an oil in particular...how do I apply. (I did apply the Hairveda oil for an hour under the dryer and with a cap but I thought that was prepooing; is that a hot oil treatment?) I'm open to try anything at this point. Shampoo I use ElastaQP diluted with some water and conditioner. It's a real good shampoo. I use Keracare 1st lather twice a month.

My hair is super short and too short for me to airdry in braids or anything. You can see the hair in my fotki.

no no, no stones here. air drying leaves my hair crunchy too.
there are lots of ways to do hot oil treatments, and you seem to be doing one of them already.
some people do hot oil treatments on dry hair, some do it on wet hair;
I just heat up oil and put it on dry hair basically and let it sit for awhile. I usually use coconut.
how often do you clarify?
Do you blow dry on cool?
have you tried putting on a scarf and sitting under the hooded dryer? that may be better than the blowdryer.
You said you DC 1-2 times a week?
How long have you been having this dryness problem?

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Shea Butter works wonders :yep: (I'm a 4a natural btw) and I've also just discovered Hollywood Beauty Castor Oil

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

I've been doing oil rinses lately (just cause I'm too lazy to do a hot oil treatment) and it's been working a charm.

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Have you tried baggying under your wigs during the day or at night?

I "dry" baggy everyday day under my half wig with just a tiny bit of moisturizer on my ends. The ends result is not wet, only moisturized, and the baggy prevents my ends from rubbing against the wig cap.

I find that there is no miracle product for dryness or breakage, only great techniques! Hope this helps! :)

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Cowashing twice a week has helped as well :)

Re: Frustrated and struggling with daily hair moisture? Anyone else or any suggestion

Something similar happened to me. My hair looked and felt very dry, even though I would moisturize it, deep condition, etc. A clarifying shampoo worked wonders! It removed all the build-up so moisture could get through.

This happened after I had tried a variety of different products after my staples were discontinued. I think one of them had wax because I could feel a waxy feeling that would appear after my hair was in warm water for a bit. It took a few clarifying shampoos to get it to go away.

Smiley and everyone I have had this problem in the past two things helped me thie first is this link:http://public.fotki.com/Chicoro123/hair-care/tutorials/how-to-strategicall/
I read her book too. short but not bad. The short of it is when wearing a textured style moisturizing is a process.

Two, I have to reapply (use this process) night!. and seal in the ends with castor or some other heavy oil. The products I use for textures styles are completely when my hair is straight. Hope that helps

First of all, ladies thank you ALL so much for the flood of answers and questions and suggestions. I appreciate all of it and will consider them...I hope this helps others going through this too.

I clarify twice a month since I use Megatek regularly (on the scalp only). I do not blow dry on cool...is that a good thing? I like the scarf and hood dryer idea...I'm willing to try that. I have had this problem for many months now. (4-5 months)
