How long did it take you?

If you had setbacks..please explain.

This is my length as of Nov. 1, 2008:

It took a stretch of between 15-20 weeks, co washes and s-curl on the new growth, baggying the ends and protective styling, either buns, or parting the hair half-way, ear to ear, braiding the top half, and braiding the bottom half and pinning both ends under with hairpins daily, and bagging each braided section at night, and using a silk scarf to tie down for a sleek look for daily wear.

I had started my hair journey near the end of 02 and had just reached bsl in 06 when I had a major set back. Not only did I have major postpartum shedding from DS#3 but I had major breakage and alopecia. It was a really stressful time. I even suffered a skin rash which left light patches of skin all over my face. I fought it and fought it and finally ended up chopping a good amount of hair off. I was really upset because I was pregnant again and feared another postpartum set back before I could even regain where I was. DS#4 is now 7 months and I'm almost back on track (or was near it before I got a trim). Good thing is my post partum shedding was no where near as bad as last time. I'm starting to have hope of reaching bsl again and maybe even passing it.
Here is my pic from my first yr of my hair care. When I started it was barely at the end of my neck but I did not think to take pics until later.

And right as I reached bsl and started getting damage. That's DS#3

And after cutting Dec of last yr

and the most recent, taken in Nov. That's DS#4

I'm really crossing my fingers that I can get to a healthy bsl by June09. I'd love to be past bsl by Christmas next yr.
Good luck to all of us!

wow your hair is so thick and gorgeous!

When I joined LHCF on July 31, I got my relaxer the next day and it was APL. I guess it took about four months (Nov. 20) to get to Bsl. This was nothing short of a miracle of Christ to me! The only things I changed included daily moisturizing and sealing, protecting my hair at night, starting my vitamin reggie again, keeping my hair up off my neck and delaying a trim. I didn't trim from May 30 until October 13 or so.

One thing that I was already doing - no direct heat!

Setbacks? I think I'm still trying to find the right balance in determining when to trim. I didn't trim for almost four months, and my hair definitely grew. I only decided to trim because I didn't like my longest, bottom layer. But both times that I did trim, it seemed like the hair grew back faster and longer than before. I'm doing a test right now to determine what i want to do from now on.

Thanks! It had been thin the day before from a condition/flat iron session (hairdresser) which I hate. I fluffed it up by dampening it and letting it airdry and then using a few rollers. But as you see, my hair does not hold curls well.

bsl from apl was a struggle for me. It took forever. I'm hoping that this time around my hair will have "memory" and get there faster.

It took me about 4 months to get from APL to BSL. But, how i did this is by keeping my hair in a bun 24/7 with no heat. The only heat i used was when i roller set my hair.

Good luck!

I finally hit APL around June of 08. I reached BSL around November so I guess that's about 5 months. I wore my hair in ponytails throughout the summer because my hair can't get straight in the summer for more than 5 seconds.

Black Hoya Chick, are you still going to transition? Or are you falling in love with the growth? If it helps, I did the BC in 07. I went from APL transitioning hair to nape length. 12 months later I was APL again but natural and about 2 inches away from BSL.

yeah i am transition for the long haul..like 2 years. i know the hair would flourish if i cut it but i am not comfortable with short hair

It took me about 9 months to get from APL to BSL. What worked for me was bunning 90% of the time, limited direct heat (no more than once a month), regular DC and minimal manipulation.
Good luck! You will reach BSL before you know it.

Took me forever just to get to APL. I'm hoping it doesn't take as long to get to BSL. You ladies have good ideas. I need to wear my hair up more. I'm starting to hate buns because my face is too round. But I can find other protective styles to do, especially since it's the cold, dry months now. My hair needs to be up and off my neck and clothes.
