Frequent washes=faster growth?

With frequent washings, are y'all seeing this analogy: the hair growing from your scalp is like grass growing from the ground? ...you would need to water it (whether its hair or grass) in order for it to grow? If so, how is our scalp like the ground of this earth? /images/graemlins/crazy.gif/images/graemlins/weird.gif

Great post...I was wondering the benefits of doing a conditioner wash versus shampoo and conditioner washes...

what everyone said makes sense...stimulation of ths scalp, rinsing away impurities, adding moisture, not stripping your hairs natural sebum...

great stuff!!

There's people that don't wash their hair at all (maybe once a month or even longer) and experience growth. I dont think washing hair more makes it grow faster. <img src="http://st1m.longhaircareforum.com/images/smilies/nono.gif" alt="" /> Im NOT saying that not washing hair is good because that's a hygiene problem. Im just saying hair will grow whether u wash it or not...it depends on how u take care of your hair along with your body.

I started co washes and my hair got an elasticity problem /images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I think it was being over conditioned if this is possible /images/graemlins/nuts.gif. I stopped and limited it to every 2 weeks. It feels much stronger and I still gain length /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif. If daily washing works for you guys that's great /images/graemlins/up.gif

I've been washing my hair every other day for the last 6 years but Im taking it back to the old school of washing once a week and using heat - lots of it !!!
I think that my hair will grow the same cos those ceramic flat irons seal moisture into your hair and it feels very healthy. Plus I leave it alone during the week.
I saw growth results with con washes but i probably wouldn't do them again cos my ends took a beating and my hair felt off after a while.

I have never shampooed enough to consider it "frequent." I wash once a week basically. But after 7+ weeks post relaxer I shampoo bi-weekly to avoid too much manipulation and detangling. I think my hair is growing along fine /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree! /images/graemlins/up.gif

I think that there is a correlation between greater length and frequent washing and/or stretching relaxers because there are usually other things that we do to our hair in conjunction with these out of necessity. Chances are if you are washing frequently or stretching your relaxers, you're regularly moisturizing your ends and newgrowth a lot with products containing humectants which draw moisture to the hair or make it easier to comb between two different textures. The person might also wear a lot of protective styles because the hair is usually wet and it needs to airdray in a style that you can walk out the door in - that equals less manipulation, less use of heat appliances, but more protection for the oldest parts of the hair.

All of those things will have a cumulative affect. Retention of more hair eventually equals longer hair.

Well I think it does make our hair grow faster. Because it keeps the hair and scalp moisturized and therefore more supple. When your scalp is tight your hair will not grow.

But other races wash their hair daily and it does grow like crazy. The only time I see whites who have short hair with little or no density, it is usually greasy looking and unkept.

I think the washing may also be removing the harmful DHT from the scalp which also stops hair from replacing itself and ultimately leads to baldness.

I've been doing daily co-washes for about a year and have seen a big difference in my thickness and length.

I can totally agree with this statement. Since I've started CO's this past summer my hair has been flourishing. /images/graemlins/weird.gif

I think it works for some people wereas supplements work for some, airdrying and rollersetting. As for me frequet washes = faster growth. Yes its true that some people don't wash their hair often and their hair grows. The keys term to " some people. Personally I never dispute what makes another persons hair grow faster because I am not that person.

I seemed to lose a lot more hair when I washed frequently, so I stopped. Once a week seems to be better for my hair. /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif
